Hopes:

*A more plot focused game. Don't get me wrong, I very much enjoyed XCX's story, but I'm not a fan of the structure they went with.
*Better cinematic production. Call me a cinematic snob, but XCX was mostly just sitting and talking and not a lot of action. The ending and certain chapters were amazing though. But they don't even hold a candle to XC's well-directed cutscenes.
*Another masterfully crafted world. The structure doesn't really matter to me as long as the plot doesn't take a hit like what happened with XCX. They can make another open-world structure game, but they better improve the plot aspect for the next project.

Xenoblade X spoilers! Don't read unless you've beaten the main story!
What I want:
*A direct sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles X after that sequel-bait ending.
*The return of some or preferably all characters return. Except the avatar - I don't care about them.
*Elma's backstory. What alien race is she a part of?
*What's up with the purple faction from the intro scene? Does Elma have anything to do with them? Why did they attack the Earth and the White Whale and then suddenly disappear?
*Who was the unnamed hero in the tandem Skell with Elma?
*What about the mysterious figure at the very end with Lao on the beach? Apparently, he's known as the Black Knight. But... why is he in this particular scene?
*Like why can everyone seemingly understand each other despite knowing different languages and... How the hell are the residents of NLA still alive if the database holding their consciousnesses was destroyed from the impact? Clearly, Mira is somehow involved... but how so? I NEED ANSWERS!

Expectations:

*A more story-driven game like XC, as confirmed by Takahashi.
*Different feel and look compared to XCX. Whatever that means...
*Takahashi gets bored doing the same things over and over again, so a new setting?
*Won't be released until 2019-2021 on the NX... :(

I want it to be more story-driven and linear like the original Xenoblade was. A giant open world is nice and all, but imo it worked to this game's detriment more than it helped it.

Specifics fall into the "what I DON'T want" category, which I'll spoiler tag.

I don't want a sequel to X. This game's story should've been entirely self-contained, and the obvious sequel bait at the end didn't make me happy one bit. Leaving things open for a sequel is fine and all, but an unfinished story is an unfinished story. I hated most of the plot twists at the end because they were twists for the sake of having twists, not twists to create an even grander story like the original was.

-The characters from this game aren't interesting enough to have another game about them. Well, rather Elma and Lin are the only two that are important enough to have importance in a sequel. And I really don't want another game where I have to lug those two around everywhere, especially Lin.
-I don't care about anything regarding the aliens. The Ganglion were pathetic/all talk. Horrible villains.
-The mysterious figure with Lao at the end was Satan welcoming him to hell or something, I don't know. The jackass deserves it.
-If Mira (or the Telethia, since he's apparently Mira's God according to L's last affinity quest) was able to save the consciousness of all the mimeosomes aboard the White Whale, then I don't see how it couldn't have saved all 20 million "passengers" as well. So, I say everyone gets revived with magic new "real bodies" and humanity lives happily ever after on Mira. It's a lot like Mother 3 at the end imo--things are left open so you, the player, decide what happens. The game was built around that concept, after all--or it tried to be, anyway. And I did everything to earn that happy ending, not about to let that get denied to me.

I respect your opinion.

Regarding your second to last point, there are actually two different databases. The one holding all 20 million passengers is completely intact from the impact. It's in that giant room where we fought Lao. While the other database (where Elma was at the end) containing the consciousnesses and souls of everyone on Mira is destroyed. The big irony is that those who died on Earth are the lucky ones while those who were able to escape Earth's destruction are screwed.

I respect your's as well. To be honest, I had passed the point of caring to juggle all the different plot points at the end, because I thought it was all so damn stupid. I still say everyone "on board" the Whale gets recreated because...idk, magic. If the 20 million passengers are in the room that wasn't destroyed, then that's all the more reason they're able to be reborn.

My personal headcanon is that Mira is the world Shulk creates at the end of the original Xenoblade Chronicles. That's why it exists in its own "pocket dimension" so to speak, and nobody seems to be able to escape from it.
