I just started picking up, and playing smash 64. I was wondering if there were any advanced techniques that were unique to 64 compared to the other smash games in the series (Melee,Brawl,Smash4).

Off the top of my head, there is:
ledge DI and reverse ledge DI
Pivot ledge grabs
Teleports
Jab grabs
around 52 different jump heights from stick jumping.
Z-canceling reduces landing lag from aerials 100% and just leaves you with regular landing lag(4 frames and 8 frames if you fast fall)

You actually have the face the ledge to grab it.

Regular di is insane in this game, which also allows you to do techniques with the di such as Ledge di and reverse ledge di

Heaven platform B canceling, you can cancel Fox's shine to instantly land on the ground, kirby's down b to instantly slam into ground, and samus down B to fall as you use the bomb, and a few other characters, like Falcon can do his falcon kick off the platform, link can descend with upB off it.

Link can also invisible bomb glitch, and descend his UpB's by sliding off the edge as he does ground UpB.

Ness can quick grab ledges and extend his ledge grab with downB

Pikachu can do double vertical upB

Mario and Luigi can extend their upB

Jigglypuff can teleport, in japanese she can slide as well.

More than just the unique tech mentioned above there are some better mechanics. Shield dropping is way easier to do and way more useful and garners a frame of invincibility when doing it. Shield jumping also yields 2 frames of invincibility which I'm pretty sure is unique to 64 (the invincibility part). When holding down you don't pass by the ledge unlike the other games, yoshi can shield jump, unlike the other games, and when edge hogging, if you roll up off the ledge you do not occupy the ledge while you are in roll. 64 ledge control makes much more sense, if you are not on the ledge you do not own the ledge, unlike in melee where as long as you are in animation that started from the ledge, you occupy the ledge. You also don't have invincibility when dropping off the ledge so planking and stalling isn't a thing and it makes edge guarding and recovery a bigger challenge requiring more mind games and more precision. Pivoting is far easier to perform and way more useful in 64 than in the other games. Combos are a technique unique to 64, instead of memorizing wavedashing or grinding out tech skill, you will find yourself grinding out combos and the punish game. Yoshi and Ness djc is in 64 which is somewhat unique as its only other appearance is in melee. There isn't a momentum mechanic like in the other games where you can run and accelerate your aerial speed, instead in 64 it has more consistency and purity and allows you to have more control with your character while being able to combo more reliably.
