So over the course of the last ~50 For Glory 1on1s I noticed a rather unusual kind of thing happening and ruining many otherwise awesome duels. Maybe anybody has experienced something similar and/or knows what the fudge this is about.
At some point during a game (obviously more often during equal, drawn out matches, rather than curbstomps) the game "freezes", in the manner of that one out of two kinds of lag. You know, not the input lag plague but the "game stops for random amounts of times in order to catch up or whatever" kind of lag, but only once, always for roughly 5-10 seconds and (as far as I've observed during the last few occurances) always somewhat close to a full minute (such as 2 minutes left, 4 minutes left,...).
After that, my opponent will somehow turn into a punching bag. They still seem able to walk, evade, recover normally (not once has anyone fumbled an upB in this state, missed a ledge or whathaveyou), they still seem randomly able to throw out moves, but only every few seconds. They often do full jab combos, but never follow up anything. They sometimes tilt or smash, they rarely use specials, they never shield, run, roll or grab. They sometimes spot-dodge. They usually stick close to me no matter how much I run around, but then just stand there for several seconds without doing anything. They never suicide or intentionally don't recover (which is what I'd do if a game has unbearable input lag to the point of being unplayable), and always try to stay on the platform for as long as possible. They are always disconnected from the session immediately, no matter how fast I spam plus to get to the CS screen.
Whatever this is, it's awful. It ruins duels. It turns people who single handedly rek me while drinking tea into empty husks, and it doesn't feel the least bit satisfying to kill them in that state. But they don't seem to suffer mere lag either, since they can usually recover and often airdodge just fine. Also, I don't have any lag when this happens, game runs perfectly smooth. Now I don't know exactly how lag "works", is it equal for both parties involved or does only the one not hosting experience it (since it seems to be peer-to-peer)? If so, how would that explain the complete absence of shielding, running, grabs and such? This also happens extremely inconsistently, sometimes not at all over the course of 10-20 games, sometimes every other game.
I would very much like to understand what is going on, and possibly prevent this as it steals wins from people who deserve them (I stopped suiciding when the event occurs to prevent my awful win ratio from falling below the level of "extremely ****ty" at some point) and just spoils the fun for everyone involved.
