Hello Weegee believers.

I play with this reeeeally campy Ike player. He rolls a LOT. Extremely predictable. Basically, all he does is stand at the other end of the level and wait for me to approach. When I do, he shield grabs, runs away, or does AAA.

I try pivot grabbing, but Weegee's traction makes it difficult. I can't shieldgrab myself, because I'm Weegee and his range knocks me far enough away. I try coming down with empty short hops to grab him from behind, and he just rolls away. I try to pressure his shield with spaced bairs and FF nairs, and he just rolls away. I know where he's going to roll and try to ^B and it doesn't hit, then I'm left wide open. I try the same thing with the fsmash and similar results (though that's my fault more than anything).

What I started doing was just doing the cyclone (can't spotdodge or roll through that) and pop him up in the air to get him out of his comfort zone. He hasn't come up with a good response to it, but I hate having to resort to one move repeatedly when I feel there's gotta be a better alternative. I've never lost to the guy, but he's the most annoying person to play against.

So, faithful Weegee mains, how do I combat this?

Time for SH approaches and fireballs. He obviously isn't very good so the simple solution is just to use fireballs and during the hitstun SH dair/fair, pretty much and air move, then you can use a ground move if he is still near by. Rinse and repeat, if he keeps doing the same thing who says you can't. That'll teach 'em

if the tornado works why not use it? i might also try to bait him into attacking and since ike has major lag after attacks you have a nice opening to utilt him or w/e

That's just the thing though--he DOESN'T attack. There's no baiting, he just sits there.

I've tried fireballs, but he just shields them. Attacking within fireball stun is one of my favorite things, but I can't get one in. Maybe if I just spammed fireballs, but something tells me that doesn't apply too much shield pressure.

someone has no patience, how about you try camping him, fire balls or just stand there, and wait, I played recently a 30 min 3 stock match, all I freaking did was camp to the very end, lets see how much patience you have compared to the ike player, also you could spam fire balls when he is near the edge

OK, shielding fireballs over and over is not a winning strategy. Hes giving you the upperhand for free, and you're complaining?

Spam fireballs until he moves, then do your thing.

Powershileding is very important for Luigi against Ike IMO. Learn to powershield his tilts and F-air consistently. Not only is this fairly easy to do with some practice, but Ike is a complete SITTING DUCK after you powershield those attacks.

After you do get a grab, always throw him UP (unless you're trying to go for a quick U-air juggle at low percents). Ike literally has zero good options in this position. If he air dodges back to the ground, and if you're good, it's a free regrab or Tornado or even a Smash if you like punishing air dodges like that. It gets a bit tricky if he attacks, but if you predict him before he does that, you get a free aerial on him, or depending on spacing, you can still get an easy regrab, but Luigi might need to PS a bit more to consistently do this.

Try to also approach behind him and Jab. Your Jab outspeeds his by a few frames and can be very difficult for him to punish out of shield.
