you are probably moving the joystick backwards too quickly so you are turning before you jump
Used to happen to me a lot, I did 2 things:

1. Return the stick to neutral(let go of it) so you get the right pause.

2. Just wait a little longer.

It'll be kinda slow at first but you'll speed it up to frame perfect......eventually??????

This.
You have to jump, then tilt the stick, if you tilt it too early you just turn.
That's pretty much all the advice I can give, AFAIK that's the only cause.

I'm trying to get Zhu's waveshine off stage to Bair, but I never can wavedash off the stage. I get stuck at the edge of it. Help?

Make your wavedash longer by tilting the stick closer to the horizontal, and keep DI'ing down and away when you get to the ledge.

I meant to put down "aerial control." I remember before reading in a thread about people being particular about not using the term "DI" unless specifically referring to being hit. Not sure what the technical term for it would be, though.

The problem is that when you're in the process of turning around in your shine, you are not allowed to jump. So either work on not turning around and just waveshine backwards, or turn around in your shine and wait until the frame where you're able to jump out of it, and then wavedash. You're getting stuck in the middle.
