Waveshine question

This might just be me, but for some reason it feels more difficult to waveshine when I am actually hitting someone as opposed to just doing it without hitting anyone. Without hitting anyone I get the timing consistently right for the most part but it's really difficult for some reason when I hit someone with the shine to actually wavedash out of it.

Side question: Does claw make waveshining easier?

You're trying to wavedash too soon. When you hit someone, you both recieve hitlag which I believe is 4 frames, where you're both frozen. You're trying to input the wavedash during those frames and nothing is happening. I recommend shining a cpu or something and waiting until you see them pop up in the air and then try to wavedash. It'll work. Then slowly but surely, bring down the time you're waiting inbetween the shine and WD until it feels like you're doing it as fast as possible.

This whole problem probably stems from you practicing waveshining without hitting anyone. Now you know about hitlag though, so in the future when you practice something like this (shine-bair) make sure you're practicing on a target as well as nothing.

To answer the side question:
I have a friend that, when waveshining, will just drag his thumb right across his controller hitting B, A, and X all in one sweep, then tapping R with his index finger. The A press in the middle doesn't matter because its during the shine animation, and then you get the short hop into wavedash and reset your thumb to do it again.

I imagine clawing would only work if you wavedash with L, how would you hit R while clawing your right hand?
