Wavedashing Question

I feel bad posting this question as a thread, but since there's no competitive question thread (that I know of), and I wanted an answer, I'm gonna ask in this thread. So, as a Brawl player, I'm slowly getting accustomed to the feel of Project M, specifically wavedashing. I understand it's pretty relevant to my main, Marth. My question is: can you perform a move when your character is IN MOTION during the wavedash, or do you have to wait for the wavedash to end before using an attack? I heard in Melee you could, for instance, Fsmash while doing the wavedash. Is this wrong, and/or not in Project M? Thanks guys.

There is a set amount of frames during which you can't do anything. Someone more knowledgeable might be able to offer more insight, I don't really know all the specific frame data.

Ok, that's good. Do you happen to know whether these frames without inputs are in the beginning, middle, or end of the wavedash?

You can do an attack while moving, though for the opening few frames it might not work it's negligible in my experience.

There are 10 frames of landing lag when you wavedash, which begin as soon as you touch the ground. At least, I'm fairly confident that's how it was in Melee, and I don't think it's changed.

Hmm. So what I'm getting here is when using Marth, I can Fsmash during the LATER frames of the wavedash?
Yep. Basically, once the 10 frames are over, you can perform an action during the residual momentum. That's why Luigi can act during his wavedash, because he is so slippery that he has a lot of momentum left over after the initial 10 frames.

AcousticAdrian and Kally Wally are spot on. There are people with short enough wavedashes where they can't act while moving simply because they are done moving by the time their 10 frames of air dodge landing lag is over. It's important to note that you can edge cancel the air dodge landing lag to act sooner. This is more applicable to when you wavelanding on platforms. Basically, if you slide off a ledge during the said 10 frames of end lag, the remaining end lag is canceled and you can do an aerial.

Is there a reason for this? If you could instantly act out of a wavedash like in melee then why do you have 10 frames of lag in PM? Furthermore can this be matched to melee?

This is the same as Melee. In both Melee and in PM there is air dodge landing lag. For some it's hard to notice, but the lag is there and the same in both games. It's partially because of the air dodge landing lag that wavedashing towards someone is slightly less common than wavedashing away from someone (though wavedashing towards someone is not useless by any means).

Gotcha. From your understanding is it possible to remove it and if it is do you think it will be done?

Why would they give you a 0 frame landing lag option?
There would never be any reason to ever empty-jump, since that option also has landing lag.

I just realized how stupid that was. >_<
No further questions.
It happens. No worries mate. Also you can cancel the endlag if you slide off a ledge. People do that often by wavelanding off the ledges of platforms. If there were no lag to edge cancel, this would be less valuable... which would be sad cause it looks cool and is fun to do :p

Also if you wd / wl toward edge while facing it, and don't hold toward it when you reach it, you'll teeter cancel the landing lag.

Yeah, that's true too. Wait, is that the only determining factor of you not falling off being whether or not you hold forward? Cause I always assumed that if your waveland was long enough compared to how close you were to the ledge, you'd slide off anyways... but now I'm wondering if that's true.

Yeah I think you won't slide of if you don't hold forward regardless of your speed.
