According to some reports by players at the invitional, wavedashing and L-canceling were not in SSB4 Wii U.

How do you feel about that? Personally, I dislike the change, but I can live with it.

I'm not really bothered by the lack of wavedashing. As for L-Cancelling however, that is something that would probably be a bummer to me, at least if there isn't reduced landing lag across the board.

I'd rather they just increase the recovery time on all the characters.

Honestly, wavedashing is an unnecessary addition, and really, an unintended glitch. While it made Melee matches very fun to watch, I understand why they don't want it to return.

L-cancelling on the other hand adds a simpler level of complexity that needs to be mastered. In concept, it's simple, but timing it correctly every single time to be as efficient as possible is a way to separate dedicated players from more casual ones without making it overly difficult to do. I definitely think it, or something like it, should be included.

It would be good to see these techniques return, but dash-dancing and MUCH lower lag on aerials/throws is all that is necessary for me.

If we don't get either of these things in the final product, then the game will likely be a competitive flop unless there is some new mechanic that we're not aware of yet!

Agreed, but remember that the game is VERY new. Technically not completed, actually, but it takes awhile for the metagame to develop. Remember when Brawl first came out and everyone thought Snake was broken?

Good times...

Snake actually remained top-tier for a long time. He was only really starting to get figured out as Brawl was dying, imo. And was still able to be high-tier. A better example would be Zelda or Ike. Haha.

I'm hoping the developers take some advice from the players, like a lot of people have been saying was taking place at E3. This game is beautiful and I really hope it's given a chance to have a healthy competitive scene and prolonged metagame now that DLC and customizable movesets are available. Fingers crossed.

I actually don't remember Zelda ever being considered to be that high up on the tier list. I must've missed it! I know Snake stayed fairly high, but I remember in the first month or so there were a multitude of threads claiming that he was actually gamebreaking, and the first tournament I attended considered banning him outright since about 50% of players had picked him.

Then Metaknight was figured out and... well, you know the story.

Meta Knight was OP, overused, and realized as "broken" right off the bat, imho.

Perhaps my memory's going. I just don't remember Metaknight being a problem until a couple months into Brawl's lifespan. He sort of went under the radar at first, then exploded. I could very well be remembering it incorrectly though.

This is exactly right.

It took some time for Metaknight's reign to come to fruition. A lot of it was mostly dependent on players learning how to effectively compete in Brawl, and Metaknight came out on top because of that.

This could probably be discussed in the Negative Opinions Thread, so please take the discussion there.

This doesn't need its own thread, so I will lock it.
