NOTE: This is a tad outdated, it was meant to be posted earlier but the status of the User Blogs at the time prevented me from doing so.

I was actually planning on addressing this, but then I saw the the Overthinker's video on the subject. And from there I decided to work off of what he had to say. Enough explanation, let's rock!

As usual, I don't agree 100% with what he said, but I do agree with the overall message. Since he gave his take on how we got to where we are in the gaming world, I suppose I will too. Now, back in the mid-00s, "HD" gaming seemed like it would be the biggest thing, and that the current gen would be more or less one big race to out-graphics the other guy. But then awoke a giant in the form of the Wii. A little white box that supported no HD graphics, broke away from traditional controls and was something completely different from what Sony and Microsoft had.

And Nintendo struck gold with it.

Now, the quality of the Wii against that of the PS3 and 360 is another debate entirely, but the fact that the Wii is pretty much unbeatable in terms of sales is something that is near un-debatable. It's pretty much gotten to the point where Microsoft and Sony aren't competing for first place, but rather who can get into second. And now the two companies that once mocked the Wii are trying to grow their own money trees with PlayStation Move and Project Natal. Now that I've laid down the facts, it's time for my opinions.

How do I see this whole "waggle" thing? I see it as a fad, just like the "interactive movies" of the early nineties, they'll go away soon enough. If not, I see one of three possibilities branching from Move and Natal:

1: They'll both be surprisingly successful, and the PlayStation 4, Xbox 720 and Nintendo's new toy will all be motion controlled consoles.

2: They'll both flop, Nintendo will still dominate, and they the PS3 and 360 will go back to trying to outdo in terms of multiplayer.

3: Sony and Microsoft will put out motion consoles as successors, and Nintendo will be all like "lol motion controls. Retro revivals is where it's at now."

And this brings me to something else that's been on my mind for a while. Retro revivals, something that the Overthinker mentioned in his video, are what I believe to possibly be the future of gaming. Now, what exactly was the game that seriously got this whole retro thing going (I personally think it was Mega Man 9) is up to you. Either way, you can't deny the success of Street Fighter IV, New Super Mario Brothers Wii and the previously mentioned Mega Man 9. Even games that thrive in classical style such as the game play of BlazBlue has been successful. And let's not forget the numerous other classical-styled games such as Konami's Contra and Castlevania on the Wiiware, as well as up coming ones such as 3D Dot Heroes or Sonic 4.

Now here's the question: what will be the future? Will Sony and Microsoft's motion controls end up creating a market place with nothing but waggling and PS-Eye 2.0s or will Nintendo and other companies prove that retro revivals is where it's at?
