Virus Help?

I recently had a virus on my Windows 7 which I removed with Ad-Aware. After I removed it with the Ad-Aware, I realized I could not access Internet Explorer direct by clicking on the icon; a window would open asking for me to choose the program I would like to use to open the internetexplorer.exe . I did figure out that if i right click the icon and choose "run as administrator", it will then work-but i have to do that every time i want to access the internet.

I soon noticed that clicking on other applications would result in an error message saying "Application Not Found". I can not delete programs from my control panel because it is inaccessable, I can not do a system recovery, or restore; the same messages will pop up. So basically, I can not make any changes to my desktop or access programs directly. Please help.

All you can do at this point is reinstall your operating system. Windows was obviously crippled by that nasty virus. Wiping it will clear the problem guaranteed, and it looks like that's the only choice left.

A google search for the exact problem you're having (as well as the name of the malware found by Ad Aware) should give you solutions. It's always helped me when I've had such problems. Reformatting is usually never the only option, but it's one that a lot of people are quick to jump to it. Try this place:

Yeah, I remember this virus. It deletes your .exe's so that you can't launch your programs and installing anything new won't really work either. And then registry errors start coming in. Had a fun 2 days copying things off, restarting from scratch and then copying it back in and reinstalling everything.

You got it. I did read on how I was supposed to fix it but at the time it was early in the morning and I didn't really trust the source so I just went ahead and started the great rebirth.

Ahhhh, makes enough sense. But yeah... The virus I got really sucked. Had to move all my files and folders to a flash drive (or a memory card in my case) then Factory Restore.
