this is a small local tourny so i advise only coming if you are close (dont come from richmond)
every sunday, comic kings will be hosting ssbm tournament!
location: 5196 fairfield shopping center, virginia beach, va 23464
number: 757-467-2254
time: sign-ups start at 12:00-1:30 every sunday and last about 1 hour
fee: 3$
prize: money based on attendance (usually 15-20 dollers)

if you don't already, try at least switching the tvs back into 4:3 instead of 16:9.. it helped lag on my tv a little, and ****'ll stop bein all stretched out.

dude...I play with O-NO and have known him for awhile. No offense personally, but i'll take his word over yours anyday.

also, you started this by ragging on him by saying he was making pitiful excuses. In case you didnt know, there are certain things other players do that require precise timing and can be thrown off very much by any type of frame or input lag. Anyone who L-cancels can tell you this, not just us.

Also, we play for fun too (or at least I do), its just that we find more fun in playing with advanced tactics and such that make the game competitive.

Also, even though O-NO got carried away, he's right. If you're gonna call someone out for making excuses, dont turn around and make your own in order to evade a challenge he made or whatever. either step up or shut up. If you only play casually where skill is unimportant, then dont sit there and piss off a skilled player.

Met, I have some extremely old (over a year old) vids up on YouTube. Search for "Kyolin ssbm" and you should find me vs. Razr from Florida. Like I said, it's old. If I were to play myself from a year ago, I'd 4-stock myself.

That's exactly right. But Met, I do still play Marth. It's nowhere near as sloppy as before. I also play other characters. Yes, from what I heard, Razr got immensely better. Wanna smash sometime? I go to ODU and I have my own place, so there's plenty of opportunities.

It seems everyone likes to argue theory. But for just one moment, let us look at the facts -- shall we?

Now I was at this tournament in question... and O-NO defeated everyone there at least once, but lost one round in the finals because of time restraints [Don't forget about that double elimination, which many people there couldn't understand]. They had one TV there with which to run the entire tournament, and we all know how long matches with spot-dodging sheiks and f-smash happy links can last. It just so happened we could only do one match for the finals, it's not like anyone was taking it seriously at that point.

Oh but yes, what about that single TV they had there?

If you look here you'll find the TV they have set up at comic kings. It is a 42" LG Plasma flat screen. You can confirm this by calling the number you provided on the first post. The most important thing to notice is that no where does it say anything about a 'game mode' or anything about 480i.

For those that don't know, the Gamecube runs at 480i or 480p. It doesn't matter the specifics, the only thing that matters is that HD is NOT 480i or 480p, and that in order to show a Gamecube game at the new resolution, the HDTV must change the picture on the fly. This is known as lag.

But don't take my word for it.

Here is a link to the AVS Forums (or go here for HDTV Arcade [Same post]). On the first post, these bits of information might be critical:

However, because HDTVs NEVER have 480i/240p (Standard Definition) and usually not even 480p (Enhanced Definition) as a native resolution, that means that any video game console we have that can't output a High Definition signal is likely to lag on any HDTV display.

Although there is no real way to measure, and the numbers vary based on the HDTV, the average HDTV seems to lag roughly 6 frames, or 1/10th of a second when processing 480i material.

The most affected gamers will be those who play ultra-time sensitive games such rhythm games, sports games with swinging/kicking meters, shooters, or fighting games.
