I'm tired and it's late so I'll get to the point, many got agravated when they found out andross being shown as an assist trophy and then refocused their thoughts at a possible 64 version of Andross being a Boss in the latest smash. So my question is: Why can't a boss be a an assist trophy as well as a boss in the subspace emissary?

Look at these pics:

hammer Bro. as an Assist Trophy

Hammer bro as a foe

Clearly hammer bro is an assist trophy as well as a foe. So why can't a boss be an assist trophy as well. I would love to have a Master hand assist trophy or an assist trophy that shot down a swarm of Primids to heat up the brawl further.

This could work in different ways.

1: Assist trophies wouldn't be allowed in the Subspace emissary

2: Certain assist trophies have to be unlocked

3: only certain assist trophies appear in the Subspace emissary.

4: Only certain bosses would be assist trophies (because Petey cant be an assist trophy with those cages) also assist trophy appearances could be different than boss battles (Petey would be an assist trophy but would use an attack that isn't cage related).

So what do you think? I'll list other points later,....... mind too tired.

That second picture... is of Hammer Bro. once he's been summoned by an assist trophy.

Anyway, this could work, but I doubt it, I reckon Sakurai won't want to overuse characters but instead try and cram a wide variety of nintendo characters in the game. So I disagree with you.

Exactly, this is why it bothered me that when Andross was revealed as an assist trophy, everyone thought that this meant he couldn't be a boss. Really, there is no reason to jump to that conclusion. Sakurai never said that assist trophies couldn't also be bosses.

I agree with this thread... but the thing with andross isn't just that he couldn't be a boss or whatever because he was an assist trophy, I think it's more likely that he won't be a boss simply because Sakurai chose to reveal him as a trophy, and not anything special. If he was a boss and a trophy, I think he would've been shown as a boss because that's way more interesting.

I disagree, you only fight a boss once in single player. YOu will see assist trophies over and over again in multiplayer.

Besides, I don't think a lot of the bosses will be revealed on the Dojo website, that way it'll be more awesome when we reach them. I don't think the Dojo website will just have a walkthrough for subspace emissary. it would be like if before Twilight Princess came out, Nintendo had revealed that Gannondorf was the boss and that described the battle in detail.

You are saying that you believe Sakurai would choose to reveal something as an assist trophy instead of a boss? I feel like he's putting a lot of effort into hyping up the story mode. But, then again, the SNES Andross isn't particularly epic, so perhaps you're right that he'd think assist trophy is more interesting than boss.
... then again, I feel that if it was both and he felt it just wasn't that epic, he'd rather choose to not talk about it at all. So... I still think that Andross will simply be a trophy, even though it'd be perfectly plausible for him to be both.

SNES Andross could easily be a trophy, and then an Andross with pumped up visual could be a boss. That's not the point. I think that some enemies or bosses could easily pass as ATs, just since they could be given different functions. Quite frankly, in the end it doesn't matter.

Well, just look at it this way: single player and multiplayer are completely seperate from each other. So, if he reveals something for multiplayer, it doesn't really have any bearing on single player. I mean, Andross as a boss would probably be completely different as Andross as a trophy. As vonfinell says, Andross as a boss would have much better visuals.

Plus, when you play Smash Bros., you will probably see Andross as an assist trophy first. So, it makes sense for Sakurai to reveal that first.

Look at Kirbykid's directional damage post in the blogs and then tell me that second pic is an assist trophy pic. Fox is obviously kicking that Hammer Bro. Plus Sakurai's willing to use the brawl main theme in multiple areas (seen by the BMT music update), so the posibility is there. Finally I don't see why he can't put a wide variety of characters and still have them appear in multiple areas.
