They make me mad.

I've tried almost a dozen different video converters, and they all suffer from some of the following

1. Can't convert one particular video I have
2. Don't have any options outside of conversion formats and stuff
3. Take up a stupid amount of memory
4. Audio desyncs

What do you all use?

If you're not all that into compression, Xvid4PSP is probably the highest-quality free program you can get. Even if you do, it's a handy program to have because it's so versatile and easy to use. It supports a huge array of video formats and has presets for mp4 conversions for things such as iPods, Xbox 360/PS3 and other mobile devices. There's a beta for the new 6.0 version, but it isn't that stable. I'd reccommend version 5.0, been using it for over a year with no problems.

If you do have a decent knowledge of compression (and scripting, maybe) use avisynth. You'd need another program like VirtualDub, though, to actually compress the files.

I'll try that out. To be honest, I have very lose morals concerning software and pirate lots of stuff, and some of the ones that you have to pay for are kind of crappy.
