The only way to record smash games, that I have available right now, is to run my Wii into my VCR and then run that into the TV. Using this, I was able to capture quite a few games and would like to now put that on my computer.

I was told that this could be achieved by getting a cable that connects the VCR to the computer. When researching it, I found that this was only through an S-video slot, which my computer doesn't have. I was wondering if anyone knew of a device (preferably under $40) that could allow me to do this in any manner?

Thank you.

I am not interested in getting a capture card. My computer is not very fast at all, and I don't want to have to play games by having the feed go from the Wii, to the card, to the comp, to the screen. We've already tried this and it gives way too much lag for while recording. The VCR set up works great as it gives nearly no lag, but it presents the problem of just getting VHS tapes to a digital format.

If I wanted to use a capture card, it would also force me to invest in new hardware for my computer, which then makes this small project expensive.

you need a capture card regardless. theres no simple input that can go from vcr to comp directly. s video as you mentioned is a standard video i/o like composite or component, however it is regularly used in computers to output the display to the tv. any kind of input requires a capture card, or a video card with video input capabilities (which chances are you dont have, it's quite rare. what are the specs of your comp? i can tell if you can probably handle video encoding or not.

then when u get a capture card u run the vcr into that and play the tape as u record on ur computer. or for better quality you can run the wii directly into it, and dont worry, its lagless. if you have done it before where there was lag, then it wasnt hooked up right.

We had a Gamebridge at my last residence. We hooked the GC to the Gamebridge and then from there into the computer. The lag was horrendous.

If my computer needs a capture card, then this sucks. I don't want to spend a lot of money just to get my matches on the computer, and I'm currently trying to buy a better laptop. If I use a VCR/DVD machine and convert my matches over to a DVD, can I just use some software to extract the video for editing?
