Very new player! Is it okay for me to play Netplay here?

I'm a very new smash player just starting to grasp wave dashing and other more advanced concepts, is it okay for me to be playing online here or should I train more before I dip my toes?

It's okay to practice online yeah. If you're new just know you'll probably get beat a lot. Don't be afraid to ask for advice, some people will be glad to help you out and some may just leave but it's always worth trying. (And if you're able to notice it I also try to offer some things I see my opponent doing as well after we finish so we both benefit.) It's also good to continue doing solo practice as well just so you can get your muscle memory down. And if you can, try to get a dedicated training partner, that way you will have consistent practice online and offline. Good luck!

Yeah it's good for learning to pick up habits. I wouldn't advise using it 100% of the time. Look for your area's local smash fb group and see when their locals are.

while i do believe there is never a time you cant compete bc of your skill level, i think you should try to learn and master wavedashing and l-canceling and apply them into gameplay before you absolutely try to compete and try to except some good results, bc you will get your head handed to you if you try to compete against people without having these techniques on point. once you mastered these techniques, learning other things should be easier bc now you have the two most important tech in the game out of the way. also note that if youre gonna compete against other people instead of just taking Ws and dipping out, you should learn why you won a game or lost a game. understanding of the game and game's situations i just as important as understanding tech skills. tl;dr, learn to wavedash and l-cancel consistently and then you can learn how to play melee through analysis and thinking.

Yeah, practice up on gaining the muscle memory for basic tech. Once you start playing online, you will learn when to use them more effectively and get good habits. If you went online and attempted to practice there, you would just get beat up and not be able to focus on the match.
