Hey. I've been playing casual since 64 released and with the new game coming out, I've decided I finally want to get into competitive play. I've picked up PM recently and have been looking around for good introductory guides to the competitive scene -- even if I've been using things for years, I only found out that they had names recently (wave dash sounds so much better than hopdodge), and I sure as hell know I'm missing out on 97% of it.

I was also wondering if anyone from Vancouver could point me towards local resources.. I don't know if smash scene works the same as other gaming communities, but I was hoping there might be some kind of FNM-esque weekly/gamely game store hangouts, so I could learn against people that are going to actually beat me. Or, otherwise, some list of local minor/casual tournaments. I'm sure I could find one or two occasionally but if there's an updated comprehensive list it'd save the effort.

My favourite accomplishments include placing 4th in a big (not major, just a lot of people) melee tournament several years ago, and holding the target smash time record for Young Link for the first couple months the game was out.

(I'm going to be camped at the Surrey Best Buy on June 14th for the demo if anyone wants to join us and play board games.)
