After Super Smash Bros. for Wii U came out, I started to use the C-Stick. Now I feel that I am overly dependent on it. I use it for all of my aerials which I feel may be throwing off my game now. Would it be better to use the C-Stick for exclusively Smash attacks or using it together with aerials? Can't seem to chain attacks as much since I've started using C-Sticks for my Fairs.

I should also mention, I am currently using the Pro controller, if this effects anything.

There has been a thing with the C-Stick that seems to move you back or forward.
An example is when I jump forward and do a back air with the c-stick, the forward momentum from my first jump is basically gone.

Or if you do a forward jump and do a forward air with the c-stick, it adds a little bit more of forward air momentum after you initial jump.

Its really weird in the game for some reason. Also, there also seems to be a thing with Pro controllers (and wireless controllers in general) that have a little bit of delay on them. just a bit tho.

You may want to set the C-stick to regular attacks instead of smashes. This can really help if you like to play with tap jump on or want to be able to do tilts with it. Although personally I always use it for quick smashes, and charge smashes with manual smash (hard f-a) (old habit that stuck from older games not letting you charge with C-stick). I think the C-stick benefits my play so if it is at all detrimental using it for your aerials then I recommend you stop using it, or change the way/times you use it.

The C stick was always good to use for aerials as you could complete certain aerials while moving in basically any direction. In Smash 4, holding in the C-stick while performing an aerial causes you to lose the momentum in which you are traveling with the control stick. if you "flick" the C-stick and allow it to return to a neutral position before the attack's hitbox completes, you can maintain your momentum.

You'll get used to it. I still use :GCY:+:GCR::GCA: for quick Fairs, but otherwise I flick the C-stick for FF aerials.

I think my problem is mainly using the C-Stick for Fairs. It is probably a lot easier to chain Fairs with the manual inputs. Might start practicing, or rather, reteach myself to use manual inputs for Fairs. Back in melee/brawl, I never used the C-Stick.

Without C stick, I have a hard time try to punish. I can do a good combo but just can't ko them.

It's all practice/muscle memory - you have to determine whether the benefit of using the controls in this way will eventually outweigh the temporary awkwardness. After playing on the 3DS, it was a brief struggle to become reacclimated with using the c-stick for aerials and now I'm adjusting to using it for tilts as well.

Find what works best for you, but as others said, be aware that the default way the c-stick or pro controller equivalent works is different in this game.

Wait, I'm confused. Are you not suppose to use the c-stick while aerial? Cause I find this easier, and more useful than the alternative.

There's really no "supposed to," but yeah, the general consensus seems to be that in previous iterations the c-stick (+ the control stick) allows you more control of your aerial movement. Works the same way in this game if you set it to "attack" instead of "smash" or if, like @ Sean² Sean² said, you time a flick to perform the aerial instead of holding it.

I had never given much thought to using C stick for anything other than smash attacks, but now you've got me thinking...

I would only use the c stick for titls on a tilt heavy character. My main Rob just gets so much more out of using the c stick for smashes. I also haven't noticed the c stick causing problems with aerials as I only use it for dairs and uairs.

I would say overall c stick configuration should depend on what character you are

I never realized flicking the c -stick VS holding it would affect aerials. I've always just flicked it.

Interesting. Now after testing it out, I can see the difference.

Right? Just expect to throw out the odd nair or jab now and then (the diagonals apparently register as neutral attacks) if you're not used to having c set to attack...

Using the c-stick for aerials is easier to me. You can control your momentum while doing other aerials (ff while uairs, etc). This also helps with quick fairs and ff. But it's always personal preference.
