So I mentioned in a post a WHILE ago that Ness can no longer perform a Double Jump Cancel like in Melee.

...

Or can he? As you may have found out by now, Ness actually still can DJC with his specials, like Mewtwo and probably Lucas in the future.
Now, is this completely useless? Well, as we have seen from My Smash Corner, Mewtwo's is not. So what about our boy?

As I have seen, DJCing PK Thunder, PSI Magnet, and PK Flash are yes, all pretty much useless.:ness:

But, just like in Melee and Project M, DJCing PK Fire does in fact have uses. If you don't know, a Double Jump Cancel is when you double jump and then perform an aerial immediately afterward to cancel it.
I like to fade back and bait the opponent to come forward and DJC PK Fire. Doing this is not only good for mixups, but it is less predictable than using it on the ground, and it also increases the forward momentum you get. This could also be good for ledgeguarding because you can stall in the air when you're going to shoot it.

Thoughts? I don't think enough Nesses are using DJC effectively, including myself. I want to hear from you guys. Do you use DJC? With what moves, and when? Am I wrong in saying it's pointless to DJC PSI Magnet? Please respond with your thoughts and experiences!

I use DJC PKF sometimes. It's just a momentum shift though, and it can catch people off guard sometimes. It's super risky though since you'll most likely land during the animation of PKF and experience crazy lag.

Possible to use, not too great though.

Sounds like you need more dtilt into bat in your diet then. That's my favorite "stupid, but can actually work" thing for Ness.

There's also the hilarious stand still and press and hold jab. If you use it against the right moves or right characters, it stops all grabs, several dash attacks, and quite a few tilts. Try it out frequently in For Glory mode and you'll see it's hilarious utility against overly aggressive approaches. It works wonders on For Glory's tryhard Fox/Falco players, for example, that always dash attack and dash grab. It even works on Greninja's shadow sneak. It's such a wet towel move that just fizzles out all momentum and can do more damage than your shield would have done, all while standing your ground. The rapid jab is hilariously effective, even if it only does 8 damage.

Would you believe I actually got that to work? It was SO CLOSE to being a true combo at about 4 or 5 on Mario.

IF ONLY

I also tried doing PK Fire after PK Flash at the low percents, and same deal. But damn if you catch someone with that...

Dtilt > PK Flash > PK Fire > PK Thunder 2

Even Poo would call it sacred.

And for the Lucas/Ness sacred team combo, Ness dtilt > Lucas dtilt > Ness grab > expertly placed PK Freeze > PK Flash > Lucas PK Thunder 1 > Ness PK Thunder 2
