Smash Ace
I've been involved with arguments about this before: using proxy mines.
Now, I am quite fully aware of the danger of this. Most of us agree it's pretty stupid to use them.
Stupid? No, no. RISKY.
Yes, risky is the term. I am here to say that they are by no means stupid to use. I am an advocate of using proxy mines.
The usefulness of the mines depends on many factors. But when you get down to it, it's a gamble, that's pretty much fact.
However, the gamble is in Snake's favor. Snake can take the damage of an accidental blast from these mines. And, four times out of five, they have worked against the opponent for me.
If used properly they can funnel your opponent into your play-field.
But the bottom line is, it all depends on how you want to play. Proxy mines add that gamble and element of risk for the more wreckless players out there, who may enjoy a dangerous gamble for a pretty good pay-off. Use with descretion!
PROS
-Mines can be used on the edges to force the enemy into making off-decisions, especially when recovering.
-They work more times than they don't, if you are using them properly and with causion.
-Can easily KO.
-Turns a piece of the map into a "danger-area", and can force gameplay into other sections of the map, which can work to your advantage (for me, this has really made an influence in the match).
CONS
-Are easily dispatched.
-Can damage or KILL you!!
-Only appropriate at certain times, and when there is time to plant them.
-Lasts for a short while.
-Nearly useless in hazard-stages.
Also, if you feel that my use for these mines is not justified, being as how they are a gamble, this is how I see it: in a game that contains something like tripping, why not?
