What if DLC such as characters and stages are available would we be able to use this online?

I believe theres a lot of threads for DLC already, but I lost track lol.

If we could download some special outfits for the Villager and use them online, I'd like that.

Maybe not DLC, but I want Event Matches to be customizable and postable online for others to play. Doesn't have to be Downloadable though. Maybe the feature could be downloaded, but not the Events themselves.

Obviously everyone isn't going to have the same stuff downloaded. Do you think this could cause problems online?

It would probably just be only you can see whatever you got downloaded.

For skins and such, this could work, but what about for characters? I personally don't see a problem with adding DLC data to your Wii U passively with each system update (with the option to opt out, of course, but that would require matchmaking to avoid game crashes...) so that you could fight DLC online. So long as the purchasable fighters aren't unbalanced it should be fine.

Well as much as I hate to quote PSASBR (as the netcode and DLC was horrible in general) this is one time you may see some praise.

They managed to allow those to play with people who didn't have the characters, a DLC stage, AND with different costumes that the opponents could still see. This is all VERY doable, and if a crap first time Sony company can do it, Nintendo can!

If the Wii U's online connectivity is anything like current gen consoles, you need to update your game before you can play online. So yes, you can absolutely use DLC characters online, whether your opponents own them or not. Everyone will have the data, DLC content will just be "locked" for anyone who doesn't buy it.

Right, whenever they release the DLC, you'd have to update your system, it would essentially pre download the character to your system, then buying the DLC would unlock them. That way, if you don't pay for the content, other players can still fight against you with it.

It's probably the worst solution to the problem, but honestly I'd be okay with just n ot being able to use dlc characters in online play. I don't use online much anyway. Hopefully that will change (hopefully it will be useable that is) but who knows.

I would love to see DLC characters and stages, the only thing I'm scared of is Nintendo wasting a DLC pack on characters that got cut. For example, DLC that is just Pichu, Dr. Mario, Roy, Young Link, and whoever gets cut between Brawl and 4. When I think DLC I think new content to explore, not content that was taken out previously. The obvious exception to my fear is if those characters got reworked from their last appearance to make them basically new characters (which would be awesome).

But Sakurai did state that he wanted to deliver a full game before he started thinking about DLC, so hopefully that means if DLC happens, it won't be to just put old characters back in.
