Hey gang, I suck with computers for the most part. My laptop (HP pavilion dv6) came with Windows 7 and my USB ports worked and it would burn CDs. All of a sudden, none of these funtions work. My USB port does not recognize anything.
I've been given this by the tech people:
as you have upgrade notebook operating system to Windows 7 starter and the BIOS and chipset drivers are not available on the Hp website.
We have search and send it to you. Please download and install the given softpaq using following links.
Following links will help you to download softpaq
*BIOS update:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp46501-47000/sp46590.exe
NOTE: Clicking the link(s) may give an error indicating that it is invalid. If this occurs, copy the link and paste it on the address bar in your browser until the complete address is displayed in the Address box.
Installation Instructions:
1. Copy and Paste the Above URL into the Address bar of the Internet Explorer.
2. You will be prompted to "Run" "Save" or "Cancel" the download.
3. Click on save to save the download.
4. Once downloaded, double click the softpaq and follow the on-screen instructions.
*Chipset drivers:

NOTE: Clicking the link(s) may give an error indicating that it is invalid. If this occurs, copy the link and paste it on the address bar in your browser until the complete address is displayed in the Address box.
Please Remove and Reinstall all USB controllers from below steps.
1) Click Start, type "device manager" in search tab.
2) Locate device manager from search list and open it.
3) Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
4) Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
5) Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.
6) Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.
I want to be sure that the solution provided to you resolves the issue. So, please reply to us with the status and we will be glad to assist you further.
After I click save, I don't know how to get to the softpaq, or let alone what one is. I feel like thats all I need to do to fix it. The customer service people are being ****ing ******s.
