US vs. EU online

I have a problem 'with friends' over the internet.
i have Brawl imported out of America (with Freeloader), I live in Europe. And a friend of mine got brawl european version. We switched FC's but when we want to connect it says:

'Disconnect from network during transmission. Error Code: 86420'

Does this mean, Europeans can't fight agains US versions? Or is there a sollution for this?
Please help me..

i get that most of the time . i just means that the connection between to the two players . is weak .. mostly because of the distance between the two ;

solution : is to get a better connection
2) make sure nothing is delaying your data transmission . like downloading / msn stuff . like that try to keep your internet traffic to minimum . also you will see alot more of those errors if you have a wireless connection
3) try reconnecting that always seems to work for me
4)let the other person host . the game
