"Up Until Now" - Don't Count Ness Out Yet!

Just something to think about to get your mind off the delay news...

We all took Sakurai's phrase "There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar." to mean that Ness isn't in the game. But hold on just a second! This controversial use of "Up Until Now" isn't the only time the phrase has been used on the Dojo, after all!

"Huh? What happened to the down special move he’s had up until now — the Mario Tornado?"

As we all know, Mario still has the Mario Tornado.

"So until now, I’ve always made sure to include handicaps in each game in the series."

Handicaps are still here, yes?

"Up until now, standard combos, or button-press combos, were done primarily by tapping the attack button repeatedly."

That's still how they function, isn't it?

Well, as you can see, "up until now" has been applied to more than one context than Ness and Lucas. Will Ness be in? ...Ehhh, maybe not, but considering Sakurai uses this phrase in many different contexts, I'm not sure if this means Ness is out.

He no longer has the Mario Tornado as his down special move.

In a completely different form. So the old handicap system was replaced by the new handicap system. Just like Ness was replaced by Lucas. You're supporting the wrong argument.

Again, in a different form. Now, you hold the button instead of tapping it. The old button pressing system was replaced by the new button presing system.



This subject has been brought up MANY times in the past, ever since the day he used the phrase. You are free to believe what you want to, however the majority still does not believe Ness is returning.
