I was just talking to my roommates while smashing and had a question about the Fox Up+B recovery. Does the Up+B give the same distance every time no matter where you aim it? I am assuming it does.

If so, when recovering on, say FD from the left, do I stand a better chance to get the edge by pointing up and angle right at maybe like 30 degrees or 45 degrees (say I was out of reach of going straight)? I was considering the free fall afterwards. I would imagine that mathematically 30 seems to be advantageous.

This kind of turns into a physics problem.

Of course it doesn't matter if my roommate edge hogs.

Yes, it's the exact same distance, but free-fall DI must be taken into account. Like if you're far away, and the opponent is on the ledge, you might have to go straight at the stage because you wouldn't have enough time to fall on to the stage from an angled Firefox and end up being edgehogged.

When you factor in DI, 30 degrees covers the most distance because you're given more height to DI with. Without DI, then 0 degrees covers the most.

No sir. He falls too fast. If you're at such a position, straight is the best option. Then again, you could aim like 45 degrees upward to screw up your opponent into getting off the ledge too early and letting you fall on it.

actually, they dont have the same distance.
first of all you should know that fox's up b goes in 16 directions
anyways, fox's up b distance is slightly longer when you go 22.5 degrees.
this is not di. the up b direction is infact longer
also works with falco

Alright, finally, the one I can agree on. That's slightly above directly horinontal btw.

That is the optimal angle for getting the most horizontal recovery. However, going straight for the ledge can be useful as you might hi them off of the ledge and then take it yourself.

Yeah, it definitely has 16 directions, and the 22.5 degree has the most horizontal recovery, do to it's length and ability to DI afterward. Not very mindgamy though, used for max distance recovery or hugging the stage right near the edge for a tech.
