so i'm not new to smashboards but i finally decided to register as a member today and i'd like to share something with the olimar board. The Up B edge cancel. this is probably know but i've never seen a topic on it so here it goes.

So i'm sure many people know that you can cancel grappling to the edge by pressing down on the control stick. after playing around with sheiks chain cancel i decided to try this tech with other characters that can grapple to the stage such as link, zamus, and of course Olimar. when i started trying to apply this tech to olimar some really cool stuff happened.

a simply explanation of how to do this would be jumping off the edge, using Olimar's Up B and as soon as it connects to the stage, press down on the control stick then immediately use your up B again. You can cancel three times before Olimar's Up B will no longer grab the edge as is true with any grapple recovery.

every now and then i can make it so Olimar will: Up B Cancel, Up B Cancel, whistle, then grab the edge with his third and final Up B. This looks insane, not much practical use but extremely flashy none the less.

A more practical way to apply this tech to battle is to bait your opponent by jumping off the edge and as they try to run off and follow you, Up B cancel and follow with another normal Up B to grab the edge. To me, this is usually an effective way to hit your oppenent right as they are about to run off the stage and edgeguard you. A useful mind game i suppose? i'll let you guys decide on that.

so yeah that's pretty much it, feel free to play around with it and tell me what you think! and as i stated earlier, sorry if this known, i never see any videos of people doing. If anyone thinks this is helpful and has the ability to put videos up of the tech go for it.

I don't remember it being posted anywhere in particular, but I'm pretty sure that most everyone already knows this. In every situation that I can think of where you can tether, drop down, and tether again, it'd be safer to do so right up at the ledge. That's probably why you don't ever see it.

What you do see fairly often is Olimar players using the tether as an edgehogging tool. We'll get on the ledge and when the opponent uses the upb, we'll press down, upb, and up to quickly regain the ledge invincibility frames. Or what you can do is upb at the ledge, hang there until the opponent uses their upb, and then press up. They have the same effect.
