Something that came to mind and I wasn't certain if it had been discussed previously: will there be a way to transfer the characters you have unlocked between the 3DS and WiiU versions? As we all know, the 3DS version will have been released some time before the WiiU version, and it's possible, particularly given cross-platform connectivity has already been confirmed to some degree. With already having the characters unlocked in one version, it's possible they could implement a system to allow for characters previously unlocked to not need to be a second time.

What do you think? Will the option be available to us, or will we have to unlock them all twice? Perhaps you think the WiiU won't even have unlockable characters? Feel free to discuss the options here!

I don't think so, with exclusive modes and such I think there will be different ways to unlock the characters with each version.

Also I don't think it would be as fun that way :/

It makes plenty more sense than having to unlock characters all over again if you happen to play both versions. A lot of people will have played the 3DS version and just want to use their favorites right away on the Wii U without playing 500 matches or grinding in some other way.

I'm still hoping the characters are all unlocked from the beginning, for both versions.

Even if they did, I'm going to unlock all the characters twice anyway because it's so damn fun!

Yeah, I'm sure you'll be able to unlock the characters by linking up. There really wouldn't be any point in having to unlock them twice now would there, would just be tedious at that point.

Something that I could definitely see being a feature but, honestly, don't want. I think it's just timeless fun being surprised by that glorious, "Challenger Approaching" screen. The fact that I get to experience that two times over makes me excited. So, even if it is a feature, I won't be using it.

I think it's a good idea to have this feature. If there was no communication between the two systems then this wouldn't be an issue and I'm sure everyone would be fine without it but since it was confirmed and move/item unlocks will probably be transferable so players with both systems wouldn't have to unlock them again then I don't see why characters couldn't fall into that same category. I'm not sure if I'd personally use that feature yet, though.

Considering that the 3DS main menu has a Wii U icon, it'll be interesting to see how the 3DS version will be able to interact with the Wii U version.

I don't see any reason not to have the feature, I mean for the people complaining saying they don't want it..you could just not use it?

I love the feeling of unlocking everything and I've actually played through melee completely several times to get that feeling all over again but at the same time I space it years apart. Having to unlock everything and then do it all over again a few months later doesn't seem that appealing to me. I would strongly prefer being able to plug in my gamecube controller and jump right in to unlock the wii u's exclusive content and if you don't want to do it that way you can just chose to not use the feature. I personally think it'll be a good system if it works like that in some form.
