Hopefully this is the best place to post this, as it is related to a tournament im hosting.

A good friend of mine works at a local gamestop which has allowed us over the past year to host a few events. We've mostly done Street Fighter and Smash related games, but now the powers that would be have decided our town does not need a 2nd gamestop, and is closing the store down.

I'll be hosting one final tournament this saturday for Smash, and given that it might be the last one until we can get a new venue, I wanted to make it something really unique and memorable.

My original plan was to do some kind of even similar to how Nintendo did their NWC recently, but given that I cannot control the number of entrants, that idea got way too complicated, way too quick.

What I've settled on now though is this:

I want an event that covers, i guess you could say, a history of smash. But I don't just want it to be fighting, i want to include a lot of different modes that were available, including things like Home Run Contest, and a couple of the Event Matches.

It seems the best way to do this would be to have everyone sign up, then put them into a Pool, or 2 pools if there are a LOT of players. I'll probably start off with a quick event to kind of "seed" or "rank" players, though after settling on the pools idea, i'm not sure how necessary that is.

Each round of the pool would have some unique event associated with it. Round 1 would be a Fight in Smash WiiU, Round 2 would be a Break the Targets in Smash 64, Round 3 a Turbo Match in PM... you get the idea?

I've got what i feel is a decent list of various events i can do for the tournament, and i probably have more than I'll need at this point across all the games.

I also was going to start off with Teams, then advance the top X players from the pool into a singles Pool, where they would face off in singles challenges, where the previous pool would be team challenges. I would also have a "final desperation" round where all the teams eliminated would compete in some way to get themselves back into the singles pool.

I was originally worried about how much time something like this might take, but i've done team and singles tournaments on only 2 set-ups without running into much of an issue (16 player tournaments at the largest, 2 pools for singles, 1 for teams). I also realized that some of the events will take almost no time at all, and overall be much quicker than a best of 3 smash match. These would include the home run contests, or the event matches i have picked out.

I'm curious if anyone has ever delt with this kind of tournament before, or if there might be any suggestions as to what i might would include. As of now, I have 5 games to include, and that will probably stay the max number. Smash 64, Melee, Brawl, PM, and WiiU.

This "tournament" is mainly a casual thing for a one last time in the foreseeable future event kind of thing, so we aren't trying to go super try-hard on it.

Any suggestions or feedback on how i might could run this, or what i could include will certainly be appreciated
