How about some 3rd party characters that no one would expect? Examples;
Croc the Crocodile?
Gex?
Tomba?
Spyro the Dragon?
Blasto?
Jersey Devil?
Tai Fu?
Ty the Tiger?

What do you guys think about these late 1990's video game icons?

Feedback on the matter would be appreciated.

Ah, the good old PSX days those were seriously awesome games and I am still completely convinced Tomba needs a sequel. Fortunately none of them will be in brawl as they just don't deserve to be in it and are playstation games, except for Tomba but that's my own bias there . If Tomba were in it though he would be one of my mains regardless of the roster.

Too bad it won't happen :ohwell:.

Yes, those were some delightful days. Much of these PSX game titles do need a good sequel to get them going again. Especially titles like Croc, Spyro, Jersey Devil and Gex.

I just wanted to know what your reactions would be if they came up on the Smash roster.

Standard prerequisite for a third-party character to be in SSB: must have been in at least one game on a Nintendo system. Unless I'm mistaken, of those characters, only Spyro and Gex meet that qualification.

Of those two, Spyro has the greater chance, since Gex is a pretty minor and forgotten character. But Spyro is hardly likely either - he has his cult fan following, but his presence would do almost nothing for the game, and if theres anything Nintendo has shown about 3rd-parties in Brawl thus far, its that the big-name characters who appeal to many fans and are most likely to bring in more customers are the ones who get in. Sonic is one of the few video game characters who is Mario's peer in wordlwide popularity, and Snake is up there too, if not quite as high as those two. Spyro isn't anywhere near that level.

Unfortunately Spyro didn't survive the transition to the PS2 which was to my utter disappointment, as far as I know there hasn't been a good one since. Also I'm surprised you don't think Tomba deserves a sequel, though the ending to the second one was kind of conclusive....

But once again as awesome as they were I wouldn't want to see almost any of them in brawl.

Croc has indeed appeared on a Nintendo platform. I understand the chances are highly unlikely, but as many people have said on this board....Sakurai is tricky and unpredictable.

Who knows what he has under his sleeve? Think about it, Croc appearing in Brawl would be a total surprise and shock and would attract that much more customers. Croc doesn't have the best cult following, but a character like Croc, who still has his devoted fans, could boost sales. It's not like we get a Croc, Gex, Tomba game every year like the Brawl 1st party characters do.

Many people would definately be interested in picking up Croc again. Or Spyro, Tomba whoever for that matter..

I really don't think many people are going to get excited if Croc the Crocidile is in the game.

But you must agree that if Croc were in the game, people would feel nostalgic and want to play as the old crocodile again. Or the fact that they wouldn't have expected this character and the general interest in the character and the game would rise dramatically.

Don't picture Croc in this scenario, picture Spyro, Tomba, or Gex. Then you'll see what I mean.

Actually most people would be disgusted and wouldn't buy Brawl, I doubt Nintendo wants that to happen.

Ah, I get it *pictures Awesome Possum from the Genesis game of the same name in Brawl*

Yeah, he would pretty awesome. Possum. Kicks Dr Machino's butt. He's awesome. <- only funny if you've ever played the game

But in seriousness, Marina from Mischief Makers would be pretty awesome.

You think all of the Megaman, Geno, Bomberman fans would be pleased if they saw Spyro in Brawl and none of the three previously mentioned made it?
I don't believe Geno fans would care as there are not much of them, no offense to the dedicated supporters of the Geno thread. I have seen your support for the character and it is amazing.

I also think outside of Smash Bros. Spyro and Gex are more recognizable than Geno, since they've actually STARRED in their own games.

In a way, characters such as Megaman and Bomberman would be kind of expected. Spyro and Tomba, combined with the 3-D graphics of Brawl, would throw people off of their feet.

Please don't take offense to this post.

KAFOR, Geno was almost at the top of the polls. He IS a popular character despite what you may think.

What would the stupid Geno fans do without Sakurai's poll? Is the only thing they have going for them.

I agree, but in the minds of the GENERAL audience of video game players, Geno is unrecognizable. You'd have to be a very, very dedicated supporter of Nintendo to discover the character of Geno in a (1995?)RPG game. Most gamers, I'd say, are very casual when it comes to video games. Once again, I'm not in any way trying to shoot down Geno supporters, I'm just giving my mind on the subject.

Get over yourself, please?

Super Mario RPG itself is held as a really great game by many. Trust me, I haven't seen very many people that didn't like it.

Sakurai's poll CAN mean things. Sakurai is fully aware of Geno's existence and popularity, and I don't see why he wouldn't interest him.

Wasnt Ty made by Rare?

Honestly, they should abandon Banjo and start with Ty, because he had some actual good games.
No, Krome Studios. It was published by Electronic Arts. Source being Wikipedia. I don't think he should necessarily replace Banjo. Banjo is rather unique.

Yes, Ty is a very good choice. An appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl would also boost his popularity and make way for many more Ty the Tasmanian Tiger video games.

I'm going to say...
Bonk
Bonk? Who is this?

Blasto looks manly enough to main for me.
Competition with Captain Falcon, perhaps? I childplay.

This is Bonk and believe it or not he has more chance than any of those in your first post.
I am not ignorant. I understand that this is highly unlikely, but in my opinion, it could boost sales if any of these characters were to be included.

Correct me if I misread this... But, did you just say Banjo (as in Banjo-Kazooie) had no good games? >.> *head explodes*

Anyways. Marina, would be awesome. I wish she really was Second-Party but honestly I have no idea about those matters. Croc would be a blast from the past, too. As for Spyro, never cared for him, and I've barely heard of Ty or Tomba.
