(the scrublord is rising.)

Just a trash Ness/Sheik/DuckDog player here whose played smash his whole life but never considering hopping off the casual express until watching the smash documentary. Now with sm4sh, we all have a shot to rise and make this scene our own!

Thing is, "Time-Saving OP" is what this doge lives by! Pretty sure none of us get hype over casually inching along for two years++ like we’re preparing for the Olympic Snail Events- that’s why we’re here.

- - - - -
My rapid tourney-ready strategy:
1)
Master core fundamentals of the game; grabbing, short-hopping, edge blocking, and shielding/dodging all that jazz [1-2 months]

2) Master twenty three characters and get them to tourney proficient level, while also sharpening core fundamentals with the trio [2-3 months]

3) Go full tryhard with high-level tech like pivots/dash grabs, spacing and zoning attacks, oos options, and making reads to confuse and predict opponents while otherwise recking them! [2-3 months]
- - - - -

So whaddaya think? Any advice in which direction I should move, or if my training strategy expectations seem silly, or want to call me a blank-boy for or tier-blank choosing Sheik? Any feedback and/or training buddies would be very much appreciated~ ♥

Predictability, reads, baiting, spacing, combo/strings, pressuring, and sweet spotting.
Fancy things like techs and cancels can come later. Basics are most important.

Aww why thank you both so much, your kind comments are appreciated. I'll definitely take that advice in things to practice as well as follow those links for online matches! <3

.. Would it be alright if I ask you two some silly questions also if you don't mind? I really only have two, and short staccato yes/no answers are fine as well.

  • Will maining diddy or lucario smear my competitive name negatively? That may sound silly, but I want to start streaming and am worried being a diddy main will affect me for the worse in the long run. Same with lucario, I wanted to include a cute fuzzy secondary like lucario or fox but lucario has a lot of hate right now.

  • Do people really get more hype watching Captain Falcon? I want to play fox but feel like falcon has more hype to his matches. Not sure if this is true, but do you think people legit enjoy watching capt falcon players more than others?

They may seem pretty silly. I'm just really worried my character choice will define me recently. Just playing duck hunt dog for funsies pisses off a lot of my friends because they can't stand his kit or my defensive playstyle. Its quite literally making me reconsider which characters to play. (may falcon instead of fox, went sheik instead of diddy/lucario, may even switch duck hunt for villager)

1. Any character gets at least some hate. But mainly the top tiers that are "broken" but don't let it bother you.
2. People get more hyped about low tier character matches since its harder to use them and takes more skill so to speak. People who are exceptionally good with them get more hype.
3. Character choice won't define you. Its attitude, productivity, and "intelligence+wisdom" only elitists and butt hurt babies will let your main bother them because they can't git gud.

Play with whomever you want, don't worry what other people think of your choices.

I just enjoy watching the game period. Especially between two hyped players. Does not matter who they are playing as to me. But low tier is usually more interesting.

Don't worry about it. Play with whoever feels the most natural or whoever you'd like to play as really. Don't let other people dictate how you should enjoy the game.

Thanks a lot Gladdy, that's a really thoughtful offer! I'd love to, though when it comes to replies I'm afraid.. I can be too slow~. Or who knows, maybe you'll be the one to have to step it up!!

Wow those replies were really fast! Much appreciated for the advice Colonelcraft and Cyndane, I'll try to stop worrying so hard about which main and secondaries I choose. It's funny you both mention people get more hype over low tiers. I kind of thought it was the opposite; figured for a while that bowser jr, duck hunt dog or people with less tier standing eventually get less players and less people interested in them and their battles in general unless aMSa-godlike.

Even if that was true, prolly one "safety" character would be plenty and the rest could be mii swordfighter and wii fit trainer and other things played for fun. Thanks for coming back to respond, both of you. I'll take any more serious questions to the forums. Pleasure to meet you both!

Because they are low, it makes them more interesting to watch. When everyone plays as one character or another in the upper tiers, it sort of loses it's excitement.

And hey, don't freak out about your character choice. Play the game based on what you love - a character, a playstyle, a move even! At the end of the day, if you were to play Diddy because you loved playing as him, then reach for the clouds, anyone who truly understood why you were using him wouldn't dare to insult you. And be happy with what you have, y'know? As you can see, I've spent a very, very long time with Ness/Lucas, the 'low tier PK kids' of smash. Now, Ness is top tier, and I wouldn't let anyone stop me from using him because of that. I have a really deep connection with these characters and I want to take them to the top. That's not a bad goal, and don't let anyone twist your mind into thinking you're 'riding the tier list' by whoever you play, okay? Sometimes it feels a bit bad at first, but you learn to overcome it and you'll be a lot happier that way, I bet.

As Colonelcraft said, it's not the character choice that defines you. It's the attitude behind it. Don't let anyone else stop you! :)
