I was fairly indifferent towards the 3DS version...until I saw this:

A Bowser ditto and a shield break in Grand Finals is so incredibly rare and amazing. I was pleasantly surprised how entertaining it was to watch competitive matches on the 3DS and I am looking forward to it come this October. What are you most hyped about?

It was fun but there's no way you'll see that happening once people get their hands on it more - not in high level play anyway, anyone in their right mind would have just rolled out the way, he had ample time.

We'll just see cooler things.

Amazing moment. Couldn't help but kind of feel a little bad for the other guy, heh, Larry seemed to have quite a bit more competitive experience than him.

edit: My bad! After reading around further I realized the other guy has had quite a bit of competitive experience as well.

Though I was impressed by bowser's buffs, I literally thought bowser vs bowser in final rounds was gonna be lame once zelda series' characters noobed out.

But that moment + midair grab suicide totally saved it, Larry's the ****in' man.

But yeah my hype for 3DS version(which is only version I can get for now) was dying on all of those 4 man FFA matches with items on. But once the 1 v 1 matches started up, it multiplied my hype by like 5 times fold Even more so in the final's matches where items were gone and you could tell who was skilled and who inched by. @_@

There's no more doubt for me that 3DS version is DEFINITELY gonna be as good as WiiU version.

...That no c-stick I'm just gonna have to get used to.

That and the Bowsercide were the high points of the tourney. The final match was truly exciting.

If before this someone told me the last match of a tournament would be a Bowser ditto, I'd laugh.

I was a bit disappointed it was a Bowser vs. Bowser Grand Finals at first. I just wanted character diversity. But it ended up being quite hype.

And yeah, the c-stick being gone is my only heartbreak over the 3DS version.

I love the lack of C-stick.

This brings the game back to 64 levels of skill.
C-stick makes it too easy to smash in directions that your hand wasn't prepped for.

Bowser got better now, that part surprised me. And yeah, I agree with you, it's great to see competitive matches for the 3DS. I think I was the only one who liked seeing all of the Smash 3DS stuff.. maybe? Well, back to the main thing, thanks to the tournament, everyone's liking the 3DS version now, which is great, since neither that version and the Wii U version are inferior. Like I said in past threads, the lack of C-Stick doesn't matter to me and I could get used to the 3DS controls quickly.

I was hpoing gamecube wouldn't be an option at all.
N64 wasn't an option from 64 to Melee....
I don't understand how hard it is to just get used to a new controller hahaha.

Yeah, me too. Though I think the Circle Pad Pro might be a good substitute for C-stick.

Anyways, I never ever used C-stick, so I am always baffled by how much people are attached to this button.

The gamecube controller is something a lot of the competitive community already has and a wired solution was absolutely necessary for tournaments, making an adapter for the WiiU is a much better solution than making a wired pro controller.

And Besides, the gamecube controller just feels like it was made for smash, I hate going back to smash 64 and playing with the n64 controller personally.

Did you know the N64 controller pretty much inspired the creation of Smash? so it means Smash was made for the N64 controller.
The gamecupe controller is great. I love the button placement for games like Soul Calibur II and such. I hate playing any traditional fighter that doesn't use the GC controller because it allowes for easy access to the button combinations unlike the newer nintendo controllers or those of the compitition. Smash, however does not need this so I have no problem playing it with a Wii-mote and nunchuck. And I doubt it would be an issue playing it on 3DS. since 3DS has the same layout as Wii U controllers, then I guess I'll probably be using pro controllers this time around, since my skills translate better form 3DS to WiiU.

The sick Smash Bros obsession over the GC controller is just odd.

Lol no, it doesn't.
Even if you don't feel that way, the reasons for making a GCN adapter (lots of controllers already in circulation (keep in mind that the WiiU isn't selling well, and if they can avoid people needing to fork out for multiple controllers for their biggest game of the year and potentially be put off by the price, they will), wired controllers needed for tournaments, Nintendo wants to try and appeal in some way to the competitive community, easier than making a wired pro controller) outweights the reasons to not do it, which is just a bunch of people saying "Why won't you learn a new control scheme" without any reasoning behind it.

This is a reasonable reason. I like it. Makes sense.
I am for having as many ways to play the game as possible.
Now we need powerglove support.

The reasoning is that we did from 64 to melee as we will from brawl to 3DS.
We have to learn it regardless.
People who screw up on 3DS are people who probably never played a SNES, DS or 3DS.

Has anyone here played Bleach DS 2nd? Awesome fighter. It's inspired by Street Fighter and it's actually pretty amazing.

I can't tell if you're mocking me because of that last bit at the end about the powerglove (sarcasm doesn't exactly translate well on the internet), but there are a lot more GCN controllers in circulation than there are PowerGloves, so it's not really comparable.

In comparison there are more N64 controller sin circulation...
The reason is to facilitate players of the game, since they have been able to play with the same control for two games.. Not because there are more in circulation.

Weak WIi U sales may also have an effect. Based purely on controller circulation though.... N64> GC

As far as I remember, the N64 controller was designed around Super Mario 64. The console's 4 player ports pretty much inspired the creation of Smash Bros., yeah. The GCN controller is great, but you know, I tried Brawl with all the controller options, from the Wii Remote to the GCN controller, and it was great. There won't be issues playing Smash on the 3DS, since the controls are pretty much the same as the Pro Controller / Classic Controller's. Maybe this is the last time Nintendo is supporting the GCN controller, I suppose.

They could have done an N64 controller adapter instead, but the GCN controller is more recent and I'd be willing to bet a larger portion of them are in good condition compared to the N64 controllers people still have and, like you said, it's what people are used to due to the last two games.

I know all of my n64 controllers are horrible to play with now just because the stick is incredibly loose due to all the use they've had, I'd have to buy new controllers if there was an n64 adapter instead.

Know what would be cool? If they released a limited edition Legacy Smash 64 controller.
I would buy that.

Honestly, so would I.

I'd love to have my black n64, black GCN, Black Wii and Black Wii U all next to each other with a load of smash branded black controllers haha.

I actually bought "new" n64 controllers recently off ebay and they turned out to be those recreation ones where they took a mold of an official one and just poured cheap plastic into it to create the shell, and the one thing I was bothered about - the stick - is really stiff and the range on it is about three times as much as a regular controller, making it almost unusable.
