You need to tilt the control stick lightly upwards, not jerk it. Tilts are aptly named. Just focus on being gentle.

I'm having a hard time chaining utilts against shiek (probably exists with other characters as well but my girlfriend is the only person available for me to play with unless I go to a smash fest)

Do you have to rotate between tilts sometimes as with chain grabbing in order to follow di? Or does it only work with really fast fallers like fox/falco/falcon?

As for the uptilt. Sheik can usually jump out, but you can punish them for doing so with a fair or upair chain while she is stuck without her double jump. You can not really link multiple uptilts unless you manage to uptilt them right when they double jumped.

Turning then uptilting I believe is faster than just uptilting in place if your trying to hit behind you. So if you see them DI behind you it is probably better to turn around uptilt out of a upthrow. I usually only need to regular uptilt against Sheik, I can not really recall a time where a Sheik DI'd behind me when I upthrow.

yea i rotate between tilts even on fastfallers. yea it will work on other Chars like gannon c falcon and sheik but they can jump out earilier and its not as effective than against fast fallers but overall still pretty good.

an easy way for beginningers for utilting is to up thrown and hold up then press a which up tilts. this worked in the beginning for me b/c i had the same problem.

i usually don't try successive utilts unless i have a fast-faller on a platform above me and he can't get off. it does work everywhere if done correctly, but if i screw up and he gets on the ground, it's a pretty laggy move and he might be able to punish it.
