1. How do I know which version of Brawl+ I'm running? I use the method in this post:

and used mirror 1. Should I update to the 5.0 at the bottom?

2. Is it possible for you and a friend to use textures online if you both have the same one? Me and my friend are both using the same files, but the only one that appears for both of us is nude ZSS, and the textures that came bundled with B+.
