Smash Wii U Troubles with Gamepad

I've been playing ssb4 since I got it with the gamepad. However, there are some things I don't like about it:

1. If a press a direction and A at the same time a smash attack occurs. This can be really annoying, it's almost impossible to do an up tilt.
2. It's very difficult to short hop.
3. I can't seem to u-air without jumping.

Is there anything I can do to help these problems without just buying a GameCube controller? I know #3 isn't a problem with that controller but what about the others? And should I get a regular GameCube controller or the one specifically designed for ssb4?

Try turning Tap Jump off in your control setup. See if it helps.

Also, you might want to try changing your right stick to Attack, rather than Smash. Use if for your aerials. If you need to smash, use left stick + A.
