Trouble switching to controller.

I recently bought an N64 to USB converter and it works perfect with the two controllers that i own, however, when i try to actually play smash with the controller, im horrible with it. So i decided that I will still use keyboard for online matches. I think this may be because i havent used an N64 controller in a long time although i can play melee with a gc controller perfectly. I still practice with the controller in training mode but i get so frustrated i go back to keyboard. Has anyone else had this problem?

if you really dislike using the n64 controller now, and you do enjoy playing melee or prefer the gamecube controller, how about you buy the gamecube to PC adapter?

When I got my controller it took me a couple of weeks to become used to it and about a month to perfect, it's just persistance really.

It's called moar practise. The skills don't "magically" transfer.

I've dealt with that issue. I went from keyboard to controller and back to keyboard because I disliked it. What made me switch over is when I fractured my arm and had a cast put on so I couldn't do crap on the keyboard but I was able to hold the controller snuggly and played with that until I got my cast off and I've never gone back since.

Just keep playing with the controller and then you'll get the hang of it. I'm not sure if you fear people will see you as a n00b because you don't do so well because you're playing in the middle of transitioning to controller, so if that is the case, let them know and don't mind if they claim johns.

I have had the same problem; what helped me was playing against people who were as good as I was with controller (i.e. complete n00bs). It was really hard, and I still don't have it down, but I figure with work it'll fall into place.

Ha, that was me on keyboard. I don't have an adapter yet, so all my controller play takes place on console; once I do get one, I'll be dazzling Kaillera with my lack of skill. Hit me up and we'll see if our matches are still good ;)

I always found it weird seeing these threads for some reason, since when I switched back to N64 controller (after not using one for like 7 years) from a 360 controller, it only took like a day or 2 to get used to it, however that's just me. When you get down to it, it all has to do with muscle memory and how long a person takes to adapt to something and this differs among everyone. Just keep practicing and don't get discouraged :).

it's way easy to go from xbox 360 to N64; it's almost natural to me. The ****ty joystick on my controller sucks though lol.
