Trouble getting vids on youtube.

I want to make a combo video of myself but all my vids are on youtube, none are on my PC. so I used Vdownloader to get them. but once I hit download I get a message that says "error video can not be downloaded, its ether an invaled adress or vid does not exist" But it frezzes before I get the message. I also Have that foxire fox helper thing. I belive its called Download helper. its a icon next to the adress bar that when I look at vidoes, it moves and clicking it downloads that vid. But when I start to download it, the file wont play on my PC at all. while Downloading it shows an icon of windows media player on a sheet of paper. and at the end of the name it has the format "flv" P belive. cna I cant change it. I went to peference and everything but it wont change. I need it in an AVI format to view it and have for movie maker to pick it up. So with this problem I cant do anything at all. can I get some help with this please? I look all over the net and everything but nothing works. thanks in advance

EDIT: Oh yes, try using Xilisoft video converter to change the .flv to something else.

Thanks for the info. its works. I was able to DL a view vids useing the link you gave me and downloading that program you told me to. But now the youtube downloader wont download and of the vids on youtube. When I put the URL and it starts searching I always get this "Failure: cannot get download url..." It just started doing that. is there something Im doing wrong. like do I have a limit of vids I can download? I dont know whats wrong. help please?
