Before I get into this, let me lay out some information. I'm a veteran smash player, having played Smash Bros 64, Melee, and Brawl, and I started getting rather good in Brawl. I was considering getting into tournaments and such, but never did, and I picked up 3DS yesterday.

I was expecting Smash 4 to be a happy medium between Brawl and Melee, so I was rather excited about the game, but then I picked up Super Smash Bros 3DS and such, but I am having trouble playing with my friends, and I've won one battle, due to sheer luck. Is there any way to easily adapt to the controls and playstyle of Smash 3DS? I'm getting better but I'm still doing awful.

Practice? Idk, I came right off Brawl to play Smash 4 day one and was fine. All I did was map the buttons how I feel would be comfortable and I was set. Just practice against lvl 1 CPUs for control purposes until you have all of your movements down to how you feel is comfortable.

I was extremely used to brawl and had the same problem.

It took me over 500 matches to get the hang of it lol. Just keep doing it, it will start to click eventually.

Yeah, I took a month to simply get used to Yoshi's new egg trajectories. It takes time. If you're moving to 3DS, it might also be part of the ergonomics of the controller. Have you played with a GCN adapter+WiiU for comparison?
