Trophy Shop: Your thoughts, and do you continue to buy trophies, even unlocked ones?

So the trophy shop is pretty simple, but unique in the Smash series. When it was announced on miiverse, it was sort of surreal, because it sort of seems like buying collectibles instead of unlocking them (wait, that's EXACTLY what it is...) This happens in a lot of games though, but the concept in my opinion, doesn't work too well here.

Well we always get multiples, we all know that. I think it's actually pretty cool that certain trophies have "values" to them (like a goomba being a lower value, and a highly stylized trophy costing a pretty penny) I wish there was a more radical version of this put in place to accomodate the latter portion of our trophy collecting
-More common trophies cost less ore the same ad of now, but more rare trophies appear cost more, allowing early users to spend more on these trophies. This gives more sense to quality in these trophies, and keeps our coin stash low. This also makes us our coins actually seem like currency than useless rubble late into our trophy collecting.
-More rare trophies appear more late into the trophy collecting. This isn't to say the shop will always be full of new trophies, but it will at least make us check back often. Like I said, the trophies will cost more based on their rarity, so we still might have to conserve coins for them.

This is all just an over-simplified version of what I think is the ideal trophy shop. I know I'm only taking into account my primary concern, so I know there are flaws somewhere in my argument. Alienating new and unexperienced players is probably a reason as to why the trophy shop is the way it is, but I can't say for sure.

Also, are there any specific trophies you continue to buy even after having them? I just bought my fifth Groose trophy, and I always pick up Hades and Pyrrhon on the 3DS whenever I see them (are they on the Wii U?) Comment on your ideal trophy shop, where your collection is at, and what trophies you still pick up.

I like it. It's like Melee's Lottery except it draws six at a time for free, and it updates between every other match or so. Trophy Rush, in contrast, is engaging for a while but then it becomes a bothersome GSP-athon and its failure to yield new trophies is more frustrating.

The Shop is the ideal trophy-getting mode, imo. I had mused on buying trophies before but my idea was more like: You fulfill certain conditions and then the corresponding trophy is added to the shop for purchase. I prefer how it is now, though.

For the sake of coin conservation, I only buy ones I don't already have, so no duplicate purchases for me.

Yeah I forgot to mention Trophy Rush. I think it's really fun, and you can apply strategy to it in order to garner more trophies (Just look at that Dr. Mario 8 fever challenge, you had to be quick on your feet) It's true after awhile it gets tedious, especially if your just trying to farm trophies. I haven't thought about how to improve the concept though.

I haven't shopped at Trophy Shop yet... why would I want to if Trophy Rush is fun! It doesn't bother me that I haven't gotten new trophies in a long time. I just enjoy the sheer joy of breaking blocks. It reminds me of breaking barrels in the early Street Fighter games.

I only buy the trophies that I don't have yet. If I already own them, then I don't bother with wasting my gold on duplicates. I have all the trophies in Smash 3DS, so the Trophy Shop is literally useless in that game now.

I bought the Anna trophy on 3DS twice. That's the only duplicate I'll buy.
Why is duplicate trophies a thing though? What even is the point?

Actually, this is the case for the "Alt" trophies n the Wii U version. To get a fighter's Alt trophy, you must beat Classic or All-Star mode as them, then keep checking the Trophy Shop for it. It's the only way you can get them too, they never appear as random drops in other modes, not even Trophy Rush.

I don't think there is any reason to purposely buy duplicates. You don't get anything for having them, so it is just a waste of gold. I get disappointed when I win a trophy I already have. This is why I mostly just buy character alts in the shop now as I've read that you can't win those. It would be nice if there was a way to sell duplicate trophies to get more gold to put toward new ones.

The very expensive trophies are also very rare to get as random rewards. If you're ever looking for Dr. Wily or Mega Mewtwo X & Y, you'll probably never see them outside of the Trophy Shop; they both cost 2500G.

I suppose it's so you have a counter for how many times you beat Classic etc with a given character, or how many times you completed a certain challenge. Otherwise, I always thought it would have been more intuitive to just have boolean values for trophies - you either have one or you don't.

Actually, the point of duplicate trophies is so you can use them multiple times in the trophy hoard photo gallery mode.
Regardless, I still don't buy duplicates because I rarely ever use that mode and thus, find it pointless.

I prefer the Trophy Shop over the Trophy Lottery in Melee any day. I've been checking it every time I do something significant (win Classic mode/Smash VS.), and my odds are good for new trophies available.

Although its winding down its use when I'm close to getting every trophy. I don't typically buy more of the same Trophy. I'll use that money towards Trophy Rush, to kill 2-3 birds with one stone. (In regards to challenges).

I just wish the new trophy variable was a bit more in favour of the player. It's so easy to get trophies, up until around you have 400, then it becomes "check the store every week and maybe there'll be a new one". I didn't even realize I didn't have every non-classic/all-star trophy in the 3ds version until I looked it up and learned that I was missing over 30.

Also, it would be nice if we could trade our multiple quantities of the same trophy to other smash players. At least not the Classic/Alt./AllStar trophies. Sure it seems complicated and unlikely, but that would help take the pain away from the random numbers.

Oh it was entertaining to me. When I started to complete challenges and stuff, from time to time I went to the Shop and everytime felt nice, like I was excited to see what new Trophies were available. Yeah, I think it was a good thing, but for now the Shop is "dead" to me, so no, I don't buy the Trophies I already have.

I'd prefer it if the coin and by connection store system worked for more than just the Trophies (When the 3DS Demo first came out, I was excited because each character only had 4 different alts and that you might have to buy or unlock their other 4), so you can buy new Custom tools/Custom moves, or something, and let us sell off our spare Trophies.

An exchange like that would help benefit my playing experience, for sure. At least the imputed a feature for you to sell Special Moves.
