Sakurai, finally responds to your love letters by demonstrating his mutual attraction via kidnapping you, and throwing you in a dark room with a years supply of pudding (Every drop of which has been personally blessed by Bill Cosby). In the room is a time machine, and an instruction to go back in time before E3 and reveal what has now been confirmed of the game, but to do so slowly and in a way fraught with ambiguity. Your job would be to let people know that Skull Kid is in the game, but not tell them that he's only an AT, and things of that nature.

What would you say to the past us given this once in a lifetime opportunity?

I would say he is a playable character, only to see him get deconfirmed later

I wouldn't go and troll them.

I'd be placing million dollar bets on Wii Fit Trainer being in the game, technically "trolling" them by collecting their money.

I would show Skull Kid as a silhouette at the very end of the trailer, standing in the same place Mega Man stood, the fighters look up at him in shock before the trailer ends as Skull Kid laughs like he does in Majora's Mask.

Then I reveal him as an Assist Trophy via a daily pic next month.

I've missed these kinds of topics.

Anyways. What I would do to troll.

Would have only revealed Wii Fit Trainer for the confirmed new character.
First veteran reveal on the Smash site after the E3 trailer would have been Meta Knight and saying in the Miiverse topics that he is a direct port from Brawl but even faster and stronger.
With the Pyrosphere stage reveal I would have included Ridley in the stage with no new character approaching thing appearing on the site so people think he is a stage hazard and thus deconfirm. Only to confirm him as a character later on.
I would have done the same thing with Viridi for the KI:U stage.
I would reveal Skull Kid with the "Warning: character approaching" label only for people to discover he is an AT in the game.

That's all I got for now.

How mean am I?

I would wait for a couple of months until Skull Kid gets revealed. Three days before though, I would say, "For all of those who want a new character: Don't worry. You will have to wait for three days." And then Skull Kid is confirmed as an Assist Trophy.

In the months leading up the the AT reveal, I would be all like, "You know, we at Nintendo don't respect MM enough." "Ganon shouldn't be the only Zelda villain to appear in a Smash game." "The moon is so pretty tonight." Then, the day before the reveal, I would tweet, "You know, everyone needs more friends, I hope you guys support the next reveal."
