how do you guys train when you dont have someone challenging to play? i used to play my friends but now i just 3-4 stock them everytime regardless of who i play as. i wanna get better as falco/fox/marth but i always **** the people i play. the funny thing is, im not saying im even that good, everyone i play just isnt. how do you guys train? i know people say a lvl 4 computer works, but that just doesnt seem to cut it for me anymore. also i know that a lvl 9 is worthless cause the reaction times are to great and you cant really practice comboing. someone help me out!

I don't suggest practicing with handicaps, as it impairs your normal play if you get used to it. You can play against an evasive computer in training mode to learn new combos, or just play against a lvl 1 computer with no time. I've found that after about 1-2 hours a week, you start to get better and faster.

Oh, and watching videos is great training, believe it or not.

A couple of good notes:

Limit your practice sessions to 20 minutes, then do something different, people tend to space out during repetitive motion training if they train for extended periods of time, and will absorb info better if they study it for short periods. This works well for studying for tests too (you can ace alot of tests by doing 3 20 minute study runs a few days before the test, however, an all-night cram session people tend to forget alot of the things they read in the middle of the session).

Get lots of aerobic (real) exercise, like light jogging and jump rope. This will improve your concentration, along with drinking lots of water (dehydration=sux at smash)

Play 2D fighting games that have better AI and work on reflex drills (shoryuken through fireballs in Super Turbo type thing)

Just mix it up.

@Vro; you should never be afraid of different methods of training; just set goals to improve to and use the training to get there, and it won't affect your "style".
