I just recently entered a tournament. The results were rather disappointing. I used Rosalina and Luma in the tournament, and I lost the first round in the singles tournament. The lost initiated my "emotional" self. I believe that Rosalina and Luna is my best character, but I didn't give my best effort. I tend to panic (especially 1v1) while playing against other human players. The challengers' ages ranged from around 20+ while I'm 14. Age doesn't matter, but some people tend to prejudge that I'm amateur at the game just because I'm 14. People say that I'm a good player for my age, but I didn't feel comfortable at all.

While playing doubles with a newcomer, I did most of the work and tantalized my opponents. I was left with one life, and my partner died. As I played, I noticed I didn't have trouble with the opponents as individuals, but I lost the match when they were paired. My opponents were threatened by me, and I nearly won the match. After the doubles, I completely lost it at the singles.

During the single matches, I lost both lives without one kill while fighting Shiek. After that, I lost my focus and completely bombarded myself with pity. I killed my opponent once on the second match, but I lost later on. My opponent wind up being one of the finalists. -_-

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to improve my tournament skills. I believe that I'm an adept player, but I feel that I need to spar against better opponents. I just feel that I was mediocre when I played, but while playing friendlies I played much better.

P.S. I feel that my best character is Rosalina & Luna. People say that I'm good with her. Should I just stick to her or should I also use other characters? I also main Zelda, Palutena, Robin, and Toon Link.

I just had my first tournament a couple days ago. My results were very disappointing too. I didn't even make it out of pools! XD. I'm some years younger than you and I feel the exact same way with people thinking, "oh it's a little kid." I'm not saying that no one was nice at the tournament, because everyone was! But what I learned is to stay confident. Sometimes your opponent can get nervous of you're really confident. Also you can keep going to tournaments to just get the feel of them. I wasn't used to the tournament environment so I believe that's a little bit of why I did bad. You should also try to make friends. It makes the tournaments more enjoyable, and you can play a lot of friendlies with them. It makes the tournament 10 times better, even if you lost all of your sets. So all you need is experience, and you're good to go! I hope this helped!
