Hey dudes I'm heading to my first Real smash tournament this weekend (yeah its Aftershock) I don't plan on taking first or anything but I also don't plan on getting my ass kicked round 1! So any tips from Ness mains who are experienced with Smash 4 tourneys... What do I need to be working on? Certain characters that the tourney will be full of? (I'm assuming the worst case scenario of lots of diddys and sonics) I'm also an online only player I get all my practice from for glory which sucks but what can ya do? So is there a difference between onine to offline play? Basically just leave any tips for Ness mains headed to their first tournaments and anything you guys wish you would've known heading into your first tourney.. hope to get some good inputs thanks dudes!

Well first, ya gotta know what stages to pick to suit your character. At the beginning of the set, strike any stages that you think are disadvantageous for Ness. Good examples are Duck Hunt because of its high ceiling which doesn't work too well when you take into account that one of Ness' best kill moves is his Uair, and Lylat because well, it's Lylat. Ness' best stages are the roaming stages (Delfino, Skyloft) and stages with low ceilings, like T&C and Halberd.

Other than that....well, just play your best...? There's honestly not much more to it than that. Do the best you can do. Try to pick up on your opponents habits and punish them accordingly. Don't get salty if you get bodied (I need to work on this myself). Just go there, play, and be respectful of the other players.

I haven't actually been to an irl tournament myself, but this is what I'd try to follow when I finally do someday.
