Super Smash Bros N64 Tournament

Mu Kappa Upsilon will be hosting a Nintedo 64 Super Smash Brothers tournament, open to all participants

Sign up for the SSB Tournament will close at 5:45pm

Structure:
...Prelims: Contestants will play in a 4-person contest, with opponents selected randomly. Each Contestant will play in three preliminary rounds using any character of choice. At the completion of the prelims, the top half of the field of the field will advance to an elimination bracket.
Game Settings

Mode: STOCK
Stock: 5
Handicap: OFF
Stage Select: Random, omit Planet Zebes (Samus) and Mushroom Kingdom
Damage: 100%
Item Switch: NONE
All Characters Available

Elims: The top-finishing half of the field will advance to the elimination bracket, with seeding based off placement in elimination rounds. Tie breakers will be determined using reciprocal points (Rciprocal Points: divide place by one i.e, 1st place-->1/1= 1.0, 2nd place--> 1/2=0.5, 3rd place--> 1/3= .333 etc). Next tiebreaker will be based on KOs, followed by lowest placement totals.

Those eliminated from the elimination round prior to the second elimination rounds will be able to participate in a consolation bracket (NIT of Smash)
After Solo Competition, there will be a Team Tournament using the same rules for Solo (Consolation, if there is time)
Light Snack food will be provided

Contestants must use standard N64 controller, either provided by the tournament, or of choice. See contacts for controller rules

Open now until 5:45pm the day of the tournament
Participants may pay in advance to contacts (see below)
Price:
$4 for PB Members Solo
$5 for Non member Solo
$8 for Team Tournament (total)

Prize: Winners and top 3 finishers will receive cash prize

Frat boys + Smash = FFA. Why am I not surprised.

Seriously though, it's a terrible idea to have free for alls. If two players simply agreed not to fight each other, they'd be virtually guaranteed to qualify if they were any good at all. There's no way to enforce anti-alliance rules. Also, Why not just let everyone play in the actual tourney? The only time when qualifying rounds are needed are when you have 64+ people.

better to have a tournament than not have one, i once played in a school tournament that started with ffa's also.
