Smash Journeyman
As of this first post, I'm just garnering interest in SK and anyone willing to come out to Yorkton to play in the first tourney I'll be hosting. I'm currently planning this for one of the first weekends of May '08.
So that's Friday May 2nd/ May 9th (Date pending, I want a big turnout, so I'll go with what works). Start time should be around 4:00 PM Saskatchewan time (in case anyone from Manitoba or Alberta wants to show).
The building I have in mind is the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton, SK! (I didn't think I'd get a room, this is kinda big). There will be access to payphones, a confectionery stand, and a pool (just for those who lose out early and want something to do). And for the sake of being user-friendly, yes, there will be bathrooms.
I have a few friends who are willing to bring a few friends of their own (Best projected number is 14, not counting people in Yorkton)
I will be running both Melee and Brawl, and between me and a few locals have enough for a few simultaneous screens. If anyone has Smash64 and working N64s, I encourage you to bring them!
One thing Mitch told me to put out there is: BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLERS!
This is still in the planning stages, so any input would be welcome; dates are still not set in stone, and any ideas for future tourneys welcome.
Tourney Rules as pertaining to Melee are as follows:
4 stock, with time, minutes doubling stock, items off.
Before the match, each side may "strike" one stage, making that stage unplayable for the duration of the set.
The "slob pick" method of choosing stages will be used. The first stage is chosen from the set of random stages, unless both sides agree on a stage.
After the first match, the loser picks the stage by the following method. First, the loser announces his stage choice. Then the winner picks character(s) and then the loser picks character(s).
Team attack is on, and no stage can be played twice in the same set. Phanna has made a pictoral guide to the tournament stage settings (Top is singles, Bottom doubles; Green is fine, yellow counterpicks, red banned): http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/8236/mlgstagesphannauj4.jpg
