Tournament in the SFV

Hey everyone
I want to start a weekly tourney in the San Fernando Valley, seeing that currently there is none. There was one at sherman oaks but it doesnt seem to exist anymore and that was for brawl, I'd much rather play Melee. I will probably start the weekly starting in August, so I want to take this time to prepare myself on hosting
If there is any advice it would be much appreciated, and if anyone wants to support, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello friend, can we get some more information?

What will the venue be like?
Pricing for venue/tournaments?
What games will be there?
Will you allow fee exceptions for setups?
How many people can your venue fit?
Who/how will the tournament be run, will you be running it?
How will the pot distribution be?

Usually a venue fee is about 5$ while actually entering a tournament is 5$. This varies on if its doubles, but usually its 5$ per team. Just ask yourself these questions above, answer them, and I think people will be able to help you more.

I am currently investigating a few venues to host the tournament

But to address the questions that I can answer
The game that is being played is melee
Setups would be helpful as I currently only have very limited amount
I will be running the tournament, and as it is my first time, I will not be playing in it
The pot distribution will go as follows

Host pockets 10%

Then for the remaining pot
60% 1st
30% 2nd
10% 3rd

Tourney Fee: $10 (Subject to change based on venue fee)

The main reason I am posting is to find a number of people who would be willing and capable of joining
But I suppose I should work out all these kinks first. Once I organize everything I will make an official post announcing the tourney and organizing entrants. Thank you Quandiverous

when you post post it her
http://smashboards.com/forums/tournament-listings.51/?prefix_id=5

if you have facebook you can join the socal social group. The most notable TO in this region is TheCrimsonBlur, so you can shoot some questions at him

Keep in mind how many people your venue can hold, and if you feel unsure about number of players attending, you can make a google docs pre-registration like MacD makes for his MAYHEM series of tournaments.

The community is pretty good about setups, so have people let you know if they can bring setup and keep track of it on your thread. You can count me in for a full setup.

For venue fee it depends on your venue. If it is a house tourney ppl will want to pay at most $3. If you can get a venue at a place then usually $4 to $5 venue, unless its a pretty badass venue. (you can post pics/description of venue and then you can gauge if it will be well received). Also try to separate venue fee from entry fee, as to not pocket from the pot money.

And at the tournament you can ask for help from players if you really need it. People are open to help a bit, especially if you are the only host.

Ideally $5 singles, $10 for a team, $5 venue.

Lost forever to obscurity
I'd be all for having more tournaments in the SFV.

Also I agree with most of what WHA? said. I would only disagree on saying Crimson is notable for the region specifically as it pertains to the SFV. I would say crimson is more south, based in LA, not to detract from Crimson, as he is one of the most prominent TO's in the LA area. The SFV only really has UGC currently.

(Since I named dropped) http://smashboards.com/threads/aug-...mvc3-usf4-more-los-angeles-california.361688/

As for the your idea though I would love to have more melee in the SFV, that's much closer so I don't have to travel as far; like we had All Ways gaming in Chatsworth. And like that tourney supposing you do secure a place for them, I can help you with running it. I do have some experience with regard to TOing.
