a problem i have had in numerous tournaments where by the time we get to grand finals, i feel like i am fatigued and dont give %100. I dont play as well and kind of give up because i dont have the mental stamina left to compete with the best players in the tourney after playing for over 8 hours or whatever against really good players depending on the size of the tourney. These are usually the times i feel like i could have played better. Does anyone have any tips for overcoming this?

sleep? caffeine? dynamic stretches to warm up and feel pumped up?
this is a mental thing, overcome it. If you REALLY wanted to win you wouldn't have fatigue. It comes from not believing in yourself and thinking you will lose. No. go in saying "I'LL GIVE THIS GUY A HARD TIME and go down as his one of his harder battles!"
ok well gl in your future if you continue with this maybe smash 4 competitive scene isnt for you

mental fatigue is a real thing. It's the reason young chess masters beat older chess masters in tourny
Try to manage your mental resources more efficiently.
meditation (think armada beast5) and rest when you can. resting could be more effective than studying your next opponent or strategizing

I used to play a lot in grand-scale strategy game tournaments lasting days on end, and my advice would be:
  • Save energy by not thinking about previous games until the tournament is over. This includes both analyzing and lamenting.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • If focus is failing, try to make very specific notes about your opponent's play-style during the round. Trying to spot simple patterns in a single variable is a low-effort way to get your brain paying attention to what is happening. Little details like how your opponent usually gets off the ledge or their usual follow-up after getting their f-air shielded are a much better starting point than just general feelings that you have to have your head in the game or play smarter.
  • Push the limits of your mental stamina often. An athlete does this in training; so should you.

Yeah this happened to me when I first started going to tournaments as well. And still does happen occasionally. But this is what separates the good players from the amazing players. The night before a tournament I just get more sleep so I won't be tired by grand finals. Especially if you are in losers grand finals then it is a pain to come back but it is possible because I've done it once before. Whatever you do, do not take drugs to enhance your performance because it will have a long term negative effect on you.

Good luck bro!
