When I look through the Character Discussion I see a lot of comments on how there shouldn't be more then a certain number of characters from certain series, like maybe their shouldn't be more then 5 Zelda Characters or more then 3 Star Fox Character, or when people say how they don't want characters from melee to make it in, so I ask

- How many characters do you think, or want their to be in Brawl?

I wonder if we can break it down to characters we know are going to return, like captain falcon, and factor in newcomers, and plausible characters to get a realistic number.

For instance, Fox, Samus and Zero suit, Mario, Link, Ice Climbers, Sonic, Bowser, Peach, Yoshi, DK, Diddy Kong, Kirby, Lucas, Snake, Zelda, Ike, Pit, Meta-Knight, Dedede, Wario, PT, and Pikachu = 23
Which is three less than the number of characters in Melee

now, assuming Ganondorf, Captain Falcon, Ness, Game and Watch, Mewtwo, Jigglypuff, and Luigi = 30

Now, assuming that our current base number is now 30, and that there will be another 3rd party slot open (31) and also assuming that only Roy is being replaced leaving Marth to remain (32) what other characters would Sakurai realistically add to Brawl?

Actually,
I take back what I said before.
I want the minimum amount of characters to be the max they can possibly put on the disc.

Presonaly i think that, for some reason, the more chars there are, the worse the are developed. I was thinking somewhere betreen 30 and 35, and no more.

I don't like having tomany to chose from. Once as a child i cried because i could ot chose between chocolat moose and cake. Shows how sad i am.

Lets see...

26 Melee characters, minus 3-5, add the first 5 newcomers, then about 10-15 more new characters, for a range of 36-43 characters. Sounds plausible to me, and I wouldnt expect more than 45 selectable characters on the roster...

6 more newcomers have been revealed as far, and Im guessing we will get about 7 more...

I clocked 36 with a 2 character margin of error.

but if you think about it, its Sakurai he can do anything. Plus look how long they've had to work on it. They pushed the game back 2 months. Im sure they could add 50 characters and not have a problem being developed

My hope is at least 38 and no more than 50, I believe 42-45 is the best bet, but what do I know?

Minimum of 37-40 Characters, while in Maximum we will get 45-47 characters.

I just want 4 FE reps, and 2 Golden Sun reps, and my life is complete, heh.

I think around 40 is a realistic number - perhaps a few more, perhaps a few less, but thats the ballpark. In the less than a year that they worked on Melee, they came up with 14 new characters, and that alongside all the new modes, features, physics, etc and having to restore the game from scratch since they couldn't use the N64 work. They've had more than two years working on Brawl, and had the melee work to build on. I think they can definitely hit 40 characters, even with some veterans being removed.
