Too many options on sceen?

I got thinking about all the options we will be given. Such as many stages or many characters. What if the amount of stages reaches so high the icon for the level will become too small to notice what stage it is? Imagine a screen full of stages (while yes it would be very pleasing to see), imagine how difficult it will be to pick out the stage you want, especially on a crappy SDTV. Do you think this will be a limiting factor in to how many stages/characters Nintendo will add, do you think it won't be a problem, or do you possibly think they may even add "sections" of levels such as scrolling through franchises.

I don't think this "cluttering" will be much of a problem with characters, but I'm a little curious about how they are going to organize the levels, especially if there are as many levels as I'm hoping to see.

It shouldn't be a problem... Unless the stages from stage Builder appear on the same screen.

But I've never heard anyone complain about having too many stages. You are honestly the first.

I'm not complaining, I even stated it would be a welcome problem, but I'm curious about organization.

Yes, lets speculate about the disaster that will obviously result when Brawl is too awesome and too fun... great idea.

Man are you serious?

If it is too fun I won't play it.

Edit: obvious solution: multiple pages of stages (ie: next page button)

Instead of responding with Hilarious Sarcasm, try thinking a bit harder about what he's saying.

He's saying that he's curious about what will happen if there are so many stages that it becomes almost impossible to find them effectively on a smaller or lower-quality television. Or even a larger television because the icons are forced to be too small. He even mentions potential solutions and nowhere calls it a disaster.

Hmm, I believe there will be a next page option.

Or perhaps, there will be a list of the stages and you get the sample of it in the background.

Thank you EDreams, glad to see some people read the entire opening post in a topic.
The reason why I even care about how they will work it in the first place, is I think organization is a highly underrated technique that can really please gamers. Look at how Halo matchmaking works. Very organized, and the results of the organization are much appreciated.
I don't think there will be too much of a problem fitting them however, I mean look at the Wii system menu, very easy on the eyes.

There is another issue to this. I know I don't care how many characters and places there are, but some people have gotten frustrated with modern day games and their options. Now, throw me all the options you like, I will embrace it. However, I know some people who hate menu surfing and just want to play the game, and they have somewhat of a point I'd say. I guess Worms is an example of a game that had an option to just start a quick match without setting it up, which is pretty cool. Maybe Smash Bros. should implement something like that.

I think the menu will be like Melee--you would just click "VS Mode" and "Melee" and select your character, then your stage. Plus, characters and stages could be random.

Imagine a screen full of stages (while yes it would be very pleasing to see), imagine how difficult it will be to pick out the stage you want, especially on a crappy SDTV.
I never thought of it, but you do have a point.

Yeah...I'm worried about the character and stage pics. I liked how they were big on the screen, but I'm afraid that when more come, they will have to shrink them. I'm talking about both the characters AND stages. I hope they do something about this.

i'd love to have this "problem".

you would memorize were the stages are pretty quickly and when you scroll over the stages it shows you the 3d image and the name in the corner anyways.

if there are too many then they can just have pages and you can flip through them to pick your stage

I don't think character icon sizes will be an issue. Melee's character icons only actually filled like 1/3 of the screen. If they need to fit more they can just shrink the other HUD elements. The stage selection screen just had a bunch of blank space.

I agree with the scrolling, but you are the first to point this out. We all know that they'll find a way to solve all of this.

They could also set it so placing the cursor on the stage magnifies it slightly so you can get a better view at what you're seeing.
