Almost all the newcomers so far have some kind of exclusive feature:
:4villager:: He have a three-stages attack, and he can store projectiles in his pocket.
:4megaman:: His standard attack is a projectile; it can be fired while running.
:4wiifit:: She can buff her status with her down special.
:rosalina:: She has Luma. Luma can move by her own.
:4littlemac:: He has a power meter and a K.O. uppercut.
:4greninja:, :4palutena: and :4pacman:: I can't think of anything.
:4robinm::4robinf:: The tomes and the Levin Sword can break.
S
: He has the Monado arts.

What do you think of this? Are there too much exclusive features? Or avoiding plain fighters is the right thing to do? How will new players react to this?

You can't think of anything for Palutena who has 12 specials (which don't fall under the same customization thing as the others?)

At any rate, I'm personally happy that each character will feel unique. Moreover, they all tie into the actual series. As long as they're all balanced, I'm ok with it.

The way you're talking about it, Gimmick and Uniqueness are interchangeable, so I'm completely fine with it.

The smasher comes from the bottom of the arena
I'll re post what I said in a another thread.

We already have a roster filled with "regular" fighters so it makes sense that these characters would have extra abilities to help differentiate themselves from the older characters. I don't really see them as "Gimmicks" but just further expanding what characters can do. Because let's admit it, if Shulk didn't have the Monado Arts, he would just be another generic swordsman on the roster (at least as far as move-set goes.).

Zelda/Shiek: Transforms between characters
Pokémon Trainer: 3 possible variations to transform between
Ice Climbers: 2 fighters, one copying the other
Olimar: Uses Pikmin in battle
Kirby: Floaty ball which eats opponents
Jigglypuff: Floaty ball with the attack of nightmares
Pichu: Damages itself with many of it's attacks
Ness: Recovery required more control, particularly from new players
Donkey Kong: Off the screen you go
Wario: ...

"Gimmicky" fighters is pretty much the heart and sole of the game.

Having to many gimmicky characters is never a bad thing. It differentiates the characters from each other.

The more gimmick/unique characters, the better.

You say they're "gimmicky" I say they're unique. I seriously haven't seen a character that I've disliked yet (except Dr.Mario and Dark Pit but who knows Dark Pit could turn out to be more than just a clone).

This is Smash Bros. where characteristics of a fighter should represent and pay homage to its series. It'd be bland if everyone was just a plain fighter. I think it's really cool they incorporate qualities into characters from their respective games.

So, I just checked a dictionary and found out that "gimmicky" is a bad word. So I changed the title.
Some pretty good opinions so far.

I think these special features for most newcomers are good. It makes the game feel different and unique.

I second this.

This bring a new twist to the newcomers AND makes them feel like nothing we've had before.
If anything, this is why clones will be clones of veterans only
(Lucina, Dark Pit, Dr.Mario)
