whenever i smash sm1 out of the stage, i usually fire lasers at them, but is it worth it? it gives them another up b and it could actually save my opponents lives. should i stop lasering?

Generally, if they still have a second jump you want to laser them until they use it so they dont gain any recovery momentum from it.

For fox and falco, you want to laser them because they have less options to recover from below the edge.
They can't mix it up with side-b, and its harder to sweet spot up b as well.

For sheik, if they recover from below the edge they cant sweet spot at all so you can d smash them. Although i still just edge hog sheik in that case (just me thought).

And for marth, his recovery is completely dependent on momentum gained from his side b. Lasering him will rob him of this momentum, making it a lot harder to recover.

So in summary, you want to laser them and make them waste their second jump as well as make them recover below the stage. Even if you give them another up-b, if it makes them easier to edge guard it should be worth it.

I want to expect better of you, but I know not to
don't laser people who are dead, laser people who aren't dead, it's really that simple. oh, and don't laser people who have facing dependent recoveries if they're facing away from the stage (CF, Ganon, Samus, Link, Y. Link come to mind), but Falco doesn't have any moves that would make them face the wrong way, so this isn't terribly relevant unless you're teaming with a Peach/Samus.

I love lasering a Marth when he's recovering from above. If he tries to second jump out of lasers and a laser hits, he gets nothing out of his second jump. If he saves second jump until he's below the stage, then he takes a lot of lasers and loses horizontal momentum.
