I've been playing ever since the game came out, watching multiple tournaments, and watching multiple streams. I understand the basics such as up tilts, back airs, shield grab, etc. I have a 62% win rate, and yet I still feel like I don't know how to play the game. I feel like I don't know how to approach an enemy, and I just keep dash attacking and grabbing. At least it feels like it. Some tips to practice and habits to get out of would help a lot. Thanks.

find a variety of "safe" options, and mix it up between them

if youre playing falcon, there arent many "safe" approaches if your opponent is keeping you at bay with projectiles.

falcon has a big short hop, so dash in, and short hop
from there, mix it up between a neutral A in the air that goes PAST your opponent (so they cant shield grab you) or cross them up with a back air.
or do a tomahawk grab (land without attacking into a grab)

Keep playing online, when you find a player that just dominates you in every aspect, just keep playing them. It helps to see what you're doing wrong & how predictable you can be. Play to get better not to increase your win rate%. Also try not to use dash attack as your approach it will make you very predictable and prone to shield grabs.

Try mixing it up with shielding and a roll or two ? That way your dashing is not always read since your opponent will not know for sure if you will rush him or if you will play a little aggressive D/mind games

Against Captain Falcon mains, make sure you don't just dash attack so much. It's a very easy thing to abuse because you run so fast I'm sure, but realize that we have fought other CF mains and it's to be expected and watched out for.

if its not too much to ask for on the 3ds I would say pivot grabbing is really good against highly defensive players waiting for an attack, it'll keep them on their toes with your approach giving you more options.

Check out the guide in my sig if you want a general approach.

Play the game so much that you get over yourself. Stay mentally engaged and think faster and broader and never slow down.
